**Question:** How much data does Arweave hold, what does permanent storage cost and how large is the endowment that pays for it?

- Kind: Dashboard in Voltfin Vantage
- Topic: [DePIN](https://voltfincrypto.com/topics/depin)
- Chains: Arweave
- Status: Planned. The data is not published yet, so this page states no figure; each figure will open its receipt when it is.

Arweave is a network for permanent storage: an uploader pays once, and most of the fee goes into a storage endowment that pays miners over time to keep the data. Each block header records the total size of the weave, the endowment's balance and the protocol's storage price, so the network's size and economics can be read from the chain itself.

This dashboard follows the weave as it grows: the bytes added each day, whether they arrive as base-layer transactions or in bundles of many uploads, what it costs to store a GiB and how the endowment and miner rewards change. AO, a computer whose processes exchange messages stored on Arweave, adds to that data, and its share is shown where its uploads can be identified.

## Blueprint

### Storage

The weave, data added and what storage costs.

- **Weave size** (TiB): Total size of the weave at the latest block, from its header.
- **Data added** (GiB): Data added on the latest complete UTC day: the change in weave size.
- **Fee to store a GiB** (AR): Fee to store one GiB at the latest block, in AR.
- **AO share of uploads** (%): Share of the latest day's data added that was AO messages, identified by their tags.
- **Data added by day** (GiB): Data added per day over the period, split into base-layer data and bundled data items.

### Endowment and rewards

How the endowment and miner rewards move.

- **Storage endowment** (AR): The storage endowment recorded in the latest block header.
- **Endowment change** (AR): Change in the endowment over the latest complete day.
- **Miner rewards** (AR): Block rewards paid to miners per day, read from block headers.
- **Endowment and storage price** (AR): The endowment at each day's last block over the period, beside the fee to store a GiB.

Filters: Period (Last 30 days, 12 months or since 2018).

## How it will be measured

- Weave size, block size, the reward pool and the storage price are read from each block header, and daily figures use the last block of the UTC day.
- Data added is the change in weave size; bundled data items are counted from bundle headers as a breakdown of the same bytes, never added on top of them.
- The fee to store a GiB is the protocol's price at the latest block, read from a node's price endpoint, in AR.
- The endowment is the reward pool recorded in block headers; its daily change shows upload fees flowing in and any withdrawals paid to miners.

## Data it needs

- `depin_networks_daily` (to build): Usage and token flows of decentralized physical infrastructure networks: burns for usage, emissions to operators, and active nodes where on-chain.
- Source: Arweave block headers: weave_size, block_size, reward_pool, reward and price_per_gib_minute
- Source: Transactions per block and their data sizes
- Source: Bundle headers of bundled transactions, for data item counts and sizes
- Source: Transaction and data item tags, to identify AO messages
- Source: A node's price endpoint, for the fee to store a GiB at the latest block

## Questions

### How does Arweave store data forever?

Uploaders pay once, and most of the fee goes into a storage endowment that pays miners over time. The fee assumes storage keeps getting cheaper, so the endowment is meant to cover keeping the data far into the future; this dashboard tracks the endowment's balance from block headers.

### How much does it cost to store data on Arweave?

The fee depends on the size of the upload and the protocol's current storage price, which the network adjusts as conditions change. The dashboard reads the fee to store one GiB at the latest block, in AR.

### What is the weave size?

The total size of all data ever stored on Arweave, recorded in every block header. Its daily change is the most direct measure of how much new data the network takes on.

### What are Arweave bundles?

Bundles pack many uploads, called data items, into one Arweave transaction, which is how much of the network's data arrives. Counting base-layer transactions alone would understate usage, so data items in bundles are counted too.

### What is AO?

AO is a computer built on Arweave whose processes communicate by messages, and those messages are stored on Arweave as data. Its uploads are identified by their tags and shown as a share of the data added.

## Glossary

- **Weave**: Arweave's name for its whole data set: every block and every byte ever stored, recorded as one growing structure.
- **Storage endowment**: The pool of AR, funded by upload fees, that pays miners to keep storing data when block rewards fall short.
- **Data item**: A single upload inside a bundle, signed by its owner and carried in one Arweave transaction with many others.
