**Question:** What changed in Bitcoin mining this month?

- Kind: Report in Voltfin Folio
- Topic: [Bitcoin](https://voltfincrypto.com/topics/bitcoin)
- Chains: Bitcoin
- Status: Planned. The data is not published yet, so this page states no figure; each figure will open its receipt when it is.

Each edition covers one calendar month of Bitcoin mining in a single dated document: how hashrate and difficulty moved, what miners earned from subsidy and fees, which pools found the blocks and what listed miners reported producing and selling. Every chain figure is read from the month's blocks and cited to them.

It is written for people who follow mining as a business or as the network's security budget: miners, analysts, investors and journalists. Company figures come from the companies' own reports, are labelled as such and are kept apart from what the chain shows. The definitions stay fixed between editions, so months can be compared.

## Blueprint

### The month in one paragraph

What moved hashrate, difficulty and miner revenue, and the single change that mattered most.

Cites: Average hashrate; Difficulty change over the month; Miner revenue in BTC and USD; Fee share of revenue.

### Hashrate and difficulty

Every retarget in the month with its size, the average time between blocks and the highest and lowest weekly hashrate.

Cites: Change at each retarget; Average block interval; Highest and lowest weekly hashrate.

### What miners earned

Subsidy and fees by day, hashprice through the month and the blocks that paid the most in fees.

Cites: Subsidy paid; Fees paid; Average and lowest hashprice; Highest-fee block.

### Who found the blocks

Blocks by pool, how concentrated mining was and how many blocks were empty or could not be attributed.

Cites: Blocks by pool; Largest pool's share; Pools needed for half of blocks; Empty blocks.

### What listed miners reported

Bitcoin mined, held and sold by the listed miners that published figures for the month, with their reported hashrate beside the network's.

Cites: Bitcoin mined by listed miners; Bitcoin sold by listed miners; Reported share of network hashrate.

### Definitions and receipts

How each figure is computed, which blocks the month covers and where the off-chain company figures come from.

## How it will be measured

- Hashrate is estimated from difficulty and the time between blocks over the month, and every retarget in the month is listed with its block and change.
- Revenue is the sum of coinbase outputs in the month's blocks, split into subsidy and fees and valued at the oracle BTC/USD price of each block's day.
- Pool shares come from coinbase tags and payout addresses; blocks that no rule identifies are counted as unknown rather than assigned.
- Listed miners' production, holdings and sales are taken from their monthly updates or filings and labelled as reported figures, with the document for each.

## Data it needs

- `bitcoin_network_daily` (to build): Blocks, hashrate implied by difficulty, difficulty, fees, transaction counts, block weight and miner revenue (subsidy plus fees) per day.
- `chain_fees_daily` (to build): Fees paid per chain per day in the native token: base fee and priority fee percentiles, total fees, and the share burned where the chain burns fees.
- `native_prices_daily` (to build): Reference prices of major assets read from on-chain oracle feeds (Chainlink latestRoundData) at each day's last block, with each round's update time.
- `address_labels` (to build): Labels for known addresses: exchanges, bridges, protocols, funds, treasuries, sanctioned addresses and known attackers.
- `treasury_holdings` (to build): Crypto held by public companies, treasury companies and governments, from filings, with on-chain addresses where disclosed.
- Source: Every block of the month: header, coinbase outputs and coinbase tag
- Source: Difficulty retargets in the month, from block headers
- Source: BTC/USD oracle on Ethereum at each day's last block
- Source: Listed miners' monthly production updates and filings, recorded with their dates

## Questions

### When is each edition published?

After the month's last block, once its figures are final. Every chain figure is pinned to a block inside the month, and each company figure to the date of the report it came from.

### How is monthly hashrate estimated?

From difficulty and how fast blocks arrived: at a given difficulty, faster blocks imply more hashrate. Short-term estimates are noisy, so the report gives monthly and weekly averages rather than daily peaks.

### Why can pool shares differ between sources?

Pools are identified from coinbase tags and payout addresses, and some pools share infrastructure or pass hashrate to others. Unidentified blocks are shown as unknown rather than assigned, which can make shares differ from lists that guess.

### Are listed miners' figures verified?

They are what each company reported, and the report labels them that way. Where a company discloses its addresses, the on-chain balance is shown beside its reported holdings, so any gap is visible.

## Glossary

- **Retarget**: The difficulty adjustment at the end of each epoch, which resets difficulty so blocks keep arriving about every ten minutes.
- **Hashprice**: What a unit of hashrate earns per day, from subsidy and fees, in bitcoin or dollars.
- **Coinbase tag**: Text a pool writes into a block's coinbase transaction, often naming the pool that found the block.
