> How many bitcoin are left to mine: supply issued so far, bitcoin issued per day, the annual inflation rate and the coins lost for good to unspendable outputs.

**Question:** How many bitcoin have been mined so far, and how many are left to mine?

- Kind: Dashboard in Voltfin Vantage
- Topic: [Bitcoin](https://voltfincrypto.com/topics/bitcoin)
- Chains: Bitcoin
- Status: Planned. The data is not published yet, so this page states no figure; each figure will open its receipt when it is.

The bitcoin left to mine is the sum of every subsidy the schedule still allows, and this dashboard computes it from the consensus rules beside the bitcoin issued up to the latest block. Each block may issue a subsidy that halves at set heights until it reaches zero, so issued supply, daily issuance and what remains all follow from the chain and the rule.

Issued is not the same as spendable. Some coins can never move: the genesis block's subsidy, outputs burned with OP_RETURN and subsidy that miners never claimed. The dashboard reads those amounts from the UTXO set and shows them apart, so circulating supply means exactly what it says, with the block it was read at.

Use it to answer the supply question precisely, to watch the issuance rate fall at each halving or to check a share-of-supply figure quoted elsewhere against the chain itself.

## Blueprint

### Supply

Issued, unspendable and left to mine, at the latest block.

- **Bitcoin issued** (BTC): Bitcoin issued from the genesis block to the latest block, the sum of every subsidy claimed.
- **Left to mine** (BTC): The sum of all future subsidies from the next block on, computed from the subsidy rule in whole satoshis.
- **Share already issued** (%): Bitcoin issued so far as a share of the total the schedule will ever issue.
- **Provably unspendable** (BTC): Issued bitcoin that can never be spent: the genesis subsidy, overwritten early coinbase outputs, OP_RETURN outputs and unclaimed subsidy.
- **Supply issued over time** (BTC): Issued supply by day over the selected period, with the schedule's remaining issuance by halving epoch drawn beyond the latest block.

### Issuance

Bitcoin issued per day and the inflation rate over time.

- **Issued in the last 24 hours** (BTC): New bitcoin issued over the last 24 hours: the subsidies of the blocks mined in that time.
- **Annual inflation rate** (%): A year of issuance at the last 30 days' pace, as a share of the supply issued so far.
- **Bitcoin issued per day** (BTC): Bitcoin issued per day over the selected period, with the step down at each halving.
- **Inflation rate over time** (%): The annualized inflation rate by day over the selected period, which falls by about half at each halving.

Filters: Period (Last year, last four years or since the genesis block).

## How it will be measured

- Supply issued is the sum of every block's subsidy from the genesis block to the latest block, checked against gettxoutsetinfo total_amount at day-end blocks.
- Provably unspendable amounts come from the coinstats index: the genesis subsidy, the two overwritten early coinbase outputs, subsidy that miners left unclaimed and outputs with unspendable scripts such as OP_RETURN.
- Daily issuance is the subsidy times the blocks actually mined that day, and annualized inflation divides a year of issuance at the last 30 days' pace by the supply issued so far.
- Left to mine is the sum of all future subsidies from the next block on, computed from the subsidy rule in whole satoshis; every figure is pinned to the block it was read at, with its hash.

## Data it needs

- `bitcoin_supply_daily` (to build): Bitcoin issued, supply by coin age band and by output script type (including coins whose public keys are already exposed), supply last moved long ago, and cost-basis measures.
- `bitcoin_network_daily` (to build): Blocks, hashrate implied by difficulty, difficulty, fees, transaction counts, block weight and miner revenue (subsidy plus fees) per day.
- Source: gettxoutsetinfo with the coinstats index at day-end blocks: total_amount, txouts and total_unspendable_amount
- Source: getblockstats subsidy for every block, summed by UTC day
- Source: Unspendable detail from coinstats block_info: genesis_block, bip30, scripts and unclaimed_rewards
- Source: The subsidy rule and halving interval from the consensus code, to compute the schedule's total

## Questions

### How many bitcoin will ever exist?

Slightly fewer than the commonly cited cap. Applied in whole satoshis, the subsidy rule adds up to a total just below it, and some issued coins can never be spent, so the amount that can ever move is smaller still. The dashboard computes the total from the rule itself.

### How many bitcoin are mined per day?

At the target pace of one block every ten minutes a day has 144 blocks, so daily issuance is the current subsidy times the blocks actually found that day. Faster blocks issue more and slower blocks less, and the figure halves at each halving.

### What is Bitcoin's inflation rate?

New issuance as a share of existing supply: a year of subsidies at the current pace divided by the bitcoin issued so far. The subsidy halves about every four years while the base keeps growing, so the rate falls in steps at each halving.

### What is the difference between issued and circulating supply?

Issued supply counts every satoshi the subsidy has created. Circulating supply, as used here, removes outputs that can never be spent. Coins whose keys are lost cannot be told apart on-chain from coins that are simply held, so they stay in circulating supply.

### When will all bitcoin be mined?

The subsidy keeps halving until it rounds down to zero satoshis, well over a century from now. Almost all of the supply is issued long before that, because each halving cuts the remaining issuance in half.

## Glossary

- **Satoshi**: The smallest unit of bitcoin: one bitcoin is 10 to the power 8 satoshis. The subsidy rule and every balance are computed in whole satoshis.
- **UTXO set**: Every unspent transaction output at a given block: the coins that exist and can be spent. Circulating supply is the sum of their values.
- **Provably unspendable**: Coins no one can ever spend, such as OP_RETURN outputs and the genesis block's subsidy, which nodes never added to the UTXO set.
