# Blockchain Revenue Rankings: Monthly League Table

> A dated monthly league table of blockchain revenue: fees users paid on each chain, the share burned, the share paid to validators and new issuance beside it.

**Question:** Which blockchains earned the most fee revenue last month, and how much of it was burned?

- Kind: Report in Voltfin Folio
- Topic: [Layer 1 chains](https://voltfincrypto.com/topics/chains)
- Chains: Multi-chain, Ethereum, Solana, Tron, BNB Chain, Bitcoin
- Status: Planned. The data is not published yet, so this page states no figure; each figure will open its receipt when it is.

Users pay every blockchain to include their transactions. Some of that money is burned, which removes tokens from supply, and the rest goes to the validators or miners who produce blocks. This report ranks the major chains by the fees users paid in the month and splits each chain's fees into the part burned and the part paid out. It sets both beside the new tokens each chain issued to its validators and stakers in the same month.

Rankings of chain revenue disagree because they define revenue differently: total fees, fees burned or fees minus issuance. This report shows every part, with one fee definition per chain written down, so a reader can rank by the measure they use. Each edition is dated and every amount is pinned to the blocks that close the month, with a receipt for the reads behind it.

## Blueprint

### The month in one table

The chains ranked by fees users paid, each with its burned share, validator share and issuance on one line, with the changes from the previous month.

Cites: Fees paid per chain; Rank change from last month; Total fees across covered chains.

### Who earned the most from fees

The full league table in native tokens and in USD, so price moves and changes in usage can be told apart.

Cites: Fees per chain in native token; Fees per chain in USD; Share of the covered chains' fees.

### Burned or paid to validators

How each chain's fees divide between the burn and block producers, following each chain's own rules.

Cites: Fees burned per chain; Fees paid to validators or miners per chain; Burned share of fees per chain.

### Fees against new issuance

Each chain's fees set beside the new tokens it issued in the month, and the net change in supply that results.

Cites: Issuance per chain; Net issuance per chain; Fees burned as a share of issuance.

### What drove the month

The activity behind each chain's fees: transaction counts, the median fee and the programs or contracts whose users paid the most.

Cites: Transactions per chain; Median fee per transaction; Top fee-paying contracts per chain.

### Definitions and receipts

Each chain's fee, burn and issuance definition, the blocks that close the month and the prices that came from off-chain references.

## How it will be measured

- Fees are what users paid in the chain's native token: on EVM chains, gas used times the effective gas price of each transaction; elsewhere, each chain's own fee field, such as the fee in Solana transaction meta or the TRX Tron burns for energy and bandwidth.
- The burned part follows each chain's rules: the EIP-1559 base fee on Ethereum and other burning EVM chains, half of Solana's base fees, the BEP-95 share on BNB Chain, the TRX burned for Tron resources and the XRP destroyed as XRP Ledger fees.
- Issuance is the new native tokens paid to validators, stakers or miners in the month, read from each chain's reward records, such as Solana's inflation rewards per epoch, Ethereum's consensus-layer rewards and Bitcoin's block subsidy.
- USD values use on-chain oracle prices at the last block of the month where a feed exists; other tokens use an off-chain reference price, named in the edition.
- The month closes at each chain's last block before midnight UTC, and every amount links to the reads that produced it.

## Data it needs

- `chain_fees_daily` (to build): Fees paid per chain per day in the native token: base fee and priority fee percentiles, total fees, and the share burned where the chain burns fees.
- `staking_networks_daily` (to build): Staked supply, staking ratio, validators and nominal rewards per proof-of-stake network per day.
- `eth_supply_daily` (to build): Daily ETH issued to validators, ETH burned through the EIP-1559 base fee, and the resulting net change in ETH supply.
- `bitcoin_network_daily` (to build): Blocks, hashrate implied by difficulty, difficulty, fees, transaction counts, block weight and miner revenue (subsidy plus fees) per day.
- `chain_activity_daily` (to build): Transactions, active sending addresses, new addresses, contracts created and gas used on each chain per day, counted from blocks and transactions.
- `native_prices_daily` (to build): Reference prices of major assets read from on-chain oracle feeds (Chainlink latestRoundData) at each day's last block, with each round's update time.
- Source: EVM receipts: gas_used times effective_gas_price per transaction, and base_fee_per_gas times gas_used per block for the burn
- Source: Solana meta.fee per transaction, split into base and priority fees by signature count
- Source: Tron TransactionInfo energy_fee and net_fee, and the Fee field of validated XRP Ledger transactions
- Source: NEAR tokens_burnt per receipt outcome, and other chains' own fee fields
- Source: Reward records: Solana inflation rewards per epoch, Ethereum consensus rewards, Tron block and vote rewards, Bitcoin block subsidy
- Source: Chainlink price feeds at month-end blocks; off-chain reference prices for tokens without one, named in each edition

## Questions

### What counts as blockchain revenue?

There is no single standard. This report treats every fee users pay to have transactions included as the chain's fee revenue, then shows how much of it was burned and how much went to validators. Some rankings count only burned fees as revenue, because burning benefits every holder; both views can be read from the same table.

### Why compare fees with issuance?

Validators are paid with fees and with newly issued tokens. When issuance is larger than the fees burned, supply grows and holders are diluted; when the burn is larger, supply shrinks. Setting the two side by side shows whether a chain's users or its token holders pay for its security.

### Why are fees burned on some chains and not others?

Burning is a design choice. Ethereum burns the base fee to tie usage to supply and make fees harder to game; Bitcoin pays every fee to miners; Solana burns half of each base fee and pays priority fees to the block producer. The report records each chain's rule beside its figures.

### Why do USD rankings change when token prices move?

Fees are paid in native tokens, so a chain's revenue in USD rises and falls with its token price even when usage is flat. The report shows native amounts beside USD so the two effects can be told apart.

### Which chains are covered?

Major layer 1 chains with readable fee and reward data, including Ethereum, Solana, Tron, BNB Chain and Bitcoin, with others added as their data is built. Layer 2 networks are covered in the layer 2 reports, since part of their fees pays for settlement on Ethereum.

## Glossary

- **Fee burn**: Fees destroyed by the protocol rather than paid to anyone, which lowers the token's supply.
- **Issuance**: New tokens the protocol creates to pay validators, stakers or miners, separate from the fees users pay.
- **Net issuance**: Issuance minus fees burned over the same period: the change in supply that comes from the chain's own rules.
- **Priority fee**: An optional fee on top of the required one, paid to the block producer to be included sooner.
