# Blockchain TPS Tracker: Measured Throughput by Chain

> Blockchain TPS measured from blocks, not advertised limits: transactions per second by chain over the last hour and day, daily peaks and block times.

**Question:** Which blockchain processes the most transactions per second in practice?

- Kind: Dashboard in Voltfin Vantage
- Topic: [Layer 1 chains](https://voltfincrypto.com/topics/chains)
- Chains: Multi-chain, Solana, BNB Chain, Tron, Base, Ethereum, Sui, Aptos
- Status: Planned. The data is not published yet, so this page states no figure; each figure will open its receipt when it is.

Chains advertise their maximum transactions per second, a figure from tests or design targets. This dashboard measures what each chain actually processes: the transactions in its blocks divided by the seconds those blocks covered, over the last hour and the last day, with each day's busiest minute and the time between blocks.

TPS counts transactions, and a transaction means different things on different chains: a simple transfer, a batch of swaps or a bot's failed attempt. Read it next to gas or compute per second, which measures work rather than count, and next to the share of failed transactions. Every figure is computed from block timestamps and transaction counts pinned to block numbers, with a receipt.

## Blueprint

### Now

Measured TPS on each chain over the last hour and day.

- **Highest measured TPS** (tx per second): The highest TPS among covered chains over the selected window, and the chain it belongs to.
- **All covered chains** (tx per second): Every covered chain's measured TPS over the selected window, added up.
- **Busiest minute today** (tx per second): The highest one-minute TPS any covered chain reached today, with the chain and the blocks it spans.
- **Fastest block time** (seconds): The shortest median interval between blocks among covered chains over the last hour.
- **Measured TPS by chain** (tx per second): Each chain's TPS over the selected window, sorted from highest to lowest, with Solana on its non-vote count.
- **Throughput details**: Per chain: TPS over the last hour and day, today's peak minute, median block time, gas or compute per second and the failed share.

### History

Daily average TPS, record peaks and block times over time.

- **Highest daily average** (tx per second): The highest daily average TPS any covered chain reached in the selected period, with the chain and the day.
- **Busiest minute in the period** (tx per second): The highest one-minute TPS any covered chain reached in the selected period, with the chain and the blocks it spans.
- **Median block time by day** (seconds): The median interval between consecutive blocks per chain per day, which shows when a chain changed its block time.
- **Average TPS by day** (tx per second): Each chain's daily average TPS over the selected period: the day's transactions divided by the seconds its blocks span.

Filters: Window (Last hour or last 24 hours); Period (Last 30 days, 90 days or a year).

## How it will be measured

- TPS is the number of transactions in a window's blocks divided by the seconds between the first and last block timestamps, over rolling one-hour and 24-hour windows.
- Solana counts non-vote transactions throughout; the vote transactions its blocks carried before the Alpenglow upgrade are shown apart, so the series stays comparable across the change.
- The daily peak is the busiest one-minute window of the day, found from per-block counts and timestamps, with the blocks it spans.
- EVM chains also report gas used per second, and Solana compute units per second, as measures of work rather than of transaction count.
- Block time is the median interval between consecutive block timestamps, using the slot, checkpoint or ledger close on chains that do not have blocks in the usual sense.

## Data it needs

- `chain_activity_daily` (to build): Transactions, active sending addresses, new addresses, contracts created and gas used on each chain per day, counted from blocks and transactions.
- `gas_blocks` (to build): Base fee, priority fee percentiles, gas used and gas limit for each block on fee-market chains, for a near-live gas tracker.
- Source: Per-block transaction count and block timestamp on each chain, for rolling one-hour and 24-hour windows
- Source: Solana getBlock per slot: blockTime and transactions, with Vote program transactions kept apart
- Source: EVM block headers: gas_used and timestamp, for gas per second
- Source: Sui checkpoints, Aptos blocks and XRP Ledger validated ledgers, with their timestamps and close times

## Questions

### What is the fastest blockchain?

It depends on what fast means. Measured throughput, the transactions actually processed per second, differs from the most a chain can handle and from how quickly a transaction becomes final. This dashboard ranks chains by measured throughput and shows block times beside it.

### Why is real TPS lower than advertised TPS?

Advertised figures are capacity: what the chain can process in tests or by design. Real TPS is demand: what users actually sent. A chain running below its capacity is not slow; it has room to spare, which also keeps its fees low.

### Is a higher TPS always better?

Not on its own. One chain's transaction can be a single transfer while another's batches many actions, and bots can raise counts with transactions that fail. Gas or compute per second and the failed share give a fuller picture of the work a chain does.

### Do Solana vote transactions count toward TPS?

Not here. Before the Alpenglow upgrade, validators sent their consensus votes as transactions, and they made up a large share of all Solana transactions. They are left out so Solana is measured on user activity, as every other chain is.

### What is the difference between TPS and finality?

TPS measures how much a chain processes; finality measures how long until a transaction cannot be reversed. A chain can process many transactions per second and still take longer to finalize them, or the reverse.

## Glossary

- **TPS**: Transactions per second: the transactions in a set of blocks divided by the seconds those blocks span.
- **Block time**: The interval between consecutive blocks; shorter block times mean transactions are included sooner.
- **Gas per second**: The gas an EVM chain's blocks use per second, a measure of the computation it processes rather than the number of transactions.
