**Question:** How much BONK is burned, where do the burns come from and how many wallets hold BONK?

BONK is a Solana memecoin that launched on Christmas Day 2022, with a large share of its supply airdropped to Solana users, developers and NFT holders. On Solana a burn is an instruction of the token program that destroys tokens and lowers the mint's supply, so every BONK burn shows up as a smaller supply on the mint itself. This dashboard reads those burn instructions and the mint's supply every day.

Most burns are paid for by fees. Apps in the BONK ecosystem, such as the BONKbot trading bot and the bonk.fun launchpad, spend part of what they earn buying BONK and burning it, and BonkDAO has voted on burns of its own. The page attributes each burn to the account that signed it, so the share coming from each source is measured rather than assumed.

## Blueprint

### Burns

BONK burned by day and by source.

- **BONK burned, latest day** (BONK): Tokens destroyed by burn instructions on the BONK mint during the latest complete UTC day.
- **BONK burned, 30 days** (BONK): Tokens burned on the BONK mint over the last 30 complete days.
- **Fee-funded share, 30 days** (%): The part of the last 30 days' burns signed by accounts in the BONKbot or bonk.fun registry.
- **Burn transactions, 30 days** (count): Transactions with at least one burn instruction on the BONK mint in the last 30 days.
- **BONK burned by day and source** (BONK): Daily burns in the selected period split into BONKbot, bonk.fun, BonkDAO, other programs and individual holders.

### Supply and holders

The mint's supply after burns, and the wallets that hold BONK.

- **Total supply** (BONK): The BONK mint's supply field at the latest day's last slot.
- **Burned since launch** (BONK): The supply minted at launch minus the current supply, which equals every burn since launch.
- **Holders** (count): Owner wallets with a non-zero BONK balance across their token accounts at the latest day's last slot.
- **Top 10 share** (%): The ten largest wallets' balances as a share of supply, with exchange and pool wallets labelled.
- **Supply and holders by day**: The mint's supply and the holder count at each day's last slot over the selected period.

Filters: Period (Last 7, 30 or 90 days).

## How it will be measured

- Burns are Burn and BurnChecked instructions of the SPL Token program on the BONK mint, summed per UTC day and attributed to the wallet or program that signed them.
- Supply is the mint account's supply field at each day's last slot, so the burns and the supply they lower can be checked against each other.
- A burn is attributed to BONKbot, bonk.fun or BonkDAO only when its signer or funding account is in the source registry, which records why each account belongs to that source.
- Holders are owner wallets with a non-zero BONK balance across their token accounts, so a wallet that holds BONK in several accounts counts once.

## Data it needs

- `token_supply_daily` (to build): Total supply of each registry token on each chain at day end: wrapped BTC, liquid staking tokens, tokenized assets and other tracked tokens.
- `token_transfers_daily` (to build): ERC-20 and native transfer counts, volume and unique senders and receivers per token per chain per day.
- `protocol_revenue_daily` (to build): Fees users paid to each protocol and the part kept by the protocol or its token holders, per protocol and day, including buybacks.
- `token_holders_snapshot` (to build): Holder counts, top holders and concentration shares of registry tokens at a pinned block, with contract and exchange labels.
- `address_labels` (to build): Labels for known addresses: exchanges, bridges, protocols, funds, treasuries, sanctioned addresses and known attackers.
- Source: SPL Token program Burn and BurnChecked instructions on the BONK mint
- Source: The BONK mint account's supply and mint authority at each day's last slot
- Source: Token accounts holding BONK, grouped by owner wallet, for holder counts
- Source: Fee accounts of BONKbot and bonk.fun and the swaps that buy BONK before a burn
- Source: BonkDAO proposals that approved burns, recorded with their source

## Questions

### How much BONK has been burned?

Burned BONK is the sum of every burn instruction on the BONK mint since launch, which equals the fall in the mint's supply from its starting amount. The page shows the total with the slot it was read at and splits it by source.

### Where do BONK burns come from?

Mostly from fees: BONKbot and bonk.fun use part of what they earn to buy BONK and burn it, BonkDAO has approved burns from its treasury and holders can burn their own tokens. Each burn is attributed by the account that sent it.

### Is BONK's supply fixed?

The page reads the mint's authorities every day. With no mint authority set, no new BONK can be created, and burns can only lower supply, so the supply line can only fall.

### How are BONK holders counted?

On Solana a balance lives in a token account owned by a wallet. The page adds up each wallet's BONK accounts and counts wallets with a non-zero total, so a wallet that holds BONK in more than one account counts once.

### Do BONK burns go to a dead address?

Not usually. Solana's token program has a native burn instruction that destroys tokens outright, unlike Ethereum, where many tokens are burned by sending them to an address nobody controls.

## Glossary

- **Mint account**: The Solana account that defines a token: its supply, decimals and the authorities allowed to mint or freeze it.
- **Token account**: The Solana account that holds one wallet's balance of one token.
- **BonkDAO**: The governance body of the BONK community, which votes on treasury spending and burns.
