**Question:** How much money flowed into or out of spot crypto ETFs this month, by asset and fund, and how much crypto do they hold?

- Kind: Report in Voltfin Folio
- Topic: [Markets and trading](https://voltfincrypto.com/topics/trading)
- Chains: Multi-chain, Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP Ledger, Litecoin, Dogecoin
- Status: Planned. The data is not published yet, so this page states no figure; each figure will open its receipt when it is.

Spot crypto ETFs have become some of the largest holders of bitcoin and ether, and their monthly flows are watched as a gauge of demand from traditional investors. This report brings every covered fund into one dated edition: net flows by asset and by fund, the coins each fund holds at month end and how the month compared with the last.

Flows and holdings come from the files issuers publish each day, recorded with their source. Where a fund discloses its custody addresses, its holdings are checked against on-chain balances at the month's last block, so the two can be compared. Each edition also covers fee changes, launches, closures and which funds stake the assets they hold.

## Blueprint

### The month in one paragraph

Net flows across every covered fund, the assets and funds that gained or lost most and how the month compared with the last.

Cites: Net flows, all funds; Net flows by asset; Change from last month.

### Bitcoin funds

Flows and holdings for each spot bitcoin fund, the share of supply held by all of them together and the largest movers.

Cites: Bitcoin ETF net flows; BTC held by funds; Share of bitcoin supply.

### Ether funds and staking

Flows and holdings for spot ether funds, the share of their ETH that is staked and the rewards they reported.

Cites: Ether ETF net flows; ETH held by funds; Share of fund ETH staked.

### SOL, XRP and other funds

Flows and holdings of the newer single-asset funds and of index funds, each measured from its own launch date.

Cites: Net flows by asset; Holdings by asset.

### Launches, closures and fees

Funds that launched, closed, merged or changed their fees in the month, with the filing behind each change.

Cites: Funds launched; Fee changes.

### Custody checked on-chain

Funds whose custody addresses are public, their on-chain balances at month end and any gap with their reported holdings.

Cites: Funds checked on-chain; Largest gap with reported holdings.

## How it will be measured

- A fund's net flow for a day is the change in its shares outstanding times its net asset value, from the issuer's daily file; the month's flow is the sum of its days.
- Holdings are the units of each asset a fund reports at month end, and a fund's share of supply uses the circulating supply read from that asset's chain at the same date.
- Where custody addresses are public, on-chain balances at the month's last block are shown beside reported holdings, and any gap is stated rather than smoothed over.
- Funds are grouped by underlying asset and listing market, and index funds holding several assets form a group of their own.

## Data it needs

- `etf_holdings_daily` (to build): Holdings and daily flows of spot crypto ETFs per fund, from issuer-published holdings, matched to custody addresses where they are disclosed.
- `market_caps_daily` (to build): Market capitalization of major assets as circulating supply times a reference price, and each asset's share of the total, per day.
- `address_labels` (to build): Labels for known addresses: exchanges, bridges, protocols, funds, treasuries, sanctioned addresses and known attackers.
- Source: Issuer daily holdings and shares-outstanding files, recorded with their source
- Source: Fund prospectuses and filings for fees, staking policy and custodians
- Source: On-chain balances of disclosed custody addresses at the month's last block
- Source: Circulating supply of each asset read from its own chain

## Questions

### What is a spot crypto ETF?

An exchange-traded fund that holds the crypto asset itself, rather than futures, and issues shares that trade on a stock exchange. Authorized participants create and redeem shares, which is what moves the fund's holdings up or down.

### Why do ETF flows matter?

When investors buy more shares than they sell, authorized participants create new shares and the fund takes in more of the asset. Lasting inflows mean more coins held by funds; outflows mean coins leave them. The report measures both by fund and by asset.

### Which assets have spot ETFs?

In the US, spot funds hold bitcoin, ether and a growing list of other assets, including SOL, XRP, Litecoin and Dogecoin, under listing standards approved in 2025. Canada, Hong Kong and other markets list funds of their own. Each edition lists every fund it covers.

### Do crypto ETFs stake their coins?

Some do. US ether funds began staking part of their holdings in 2025, and several SOL funds have staked since launch. The report shows which funds stake, the share they report staked and how rewards reach shareholders.

### Can ETF holdings be verified on-chain?

Only in part. Most funds name a custodian but not their addresses, and custodians often pool coins. Where an issuer publishes addresses, the report checks the balance at the month's last block; otherwise it says the figure comes from the issuer's file.

## Glossary

- **Net flow**: The value of shares created minus shares redeemed over a period: how much money entered or left a fund.
- **Authorized participant**: A firm allowed to create and redeem a fund's shares directly with the issuer, in cash or in the asset itself.
- **Sponsor fee**: The yearly fee a fund charges, taken as a share of its assets.
