**Question:** What are the largest cryptocurrencies by market cap, and how much of each coin's supply can be checked on-chain?

- Kind: Table in Voltfin Strata
- Topic: [Markets and trading](https://voltfincrypto.com/topics/trading)
- Chains: Multi-chain, Bitcoin, Ethereum
- Status: Planned. The data is not published yet, so this page states no figure; each figure will open its receipt when it is.

Market cap is a coin's circulating supply multiplied by its price, and the ranking that follows from it is one of the most read lists in crypto. Supply is the half of that product that lives on-chain: a token contract's totalSupply, Bitcoin's issued coins, ether's issuance minus its burn. This table reads it from each chain instead of taking it on trust.

Each row names where its supply and its price come from. Supply is marked as read on-chain, or as taken from the issuer where locked and team wallets are not public; price is marked as an on-chain oracle feed or an off-chain reference. Circulating and total supply are shown side by side, so the gap between market cap and fully diluted valuation is visible.

Sort it by market cap, by fully diluted valuation or by the share of supply still locked, filter it by chain or by price source and open any supply cell to see the block and the read behind it.

## Blueprint

One row: One row per asset on the latest complete day

- **Rank** (`rank`): Position by market cap on the day, after the selected filters.
- **Asset** (`asset`): The coin or token name and symbol, linked to its contract or chain.
- **Home chain** (`chain`): The chain the asset is issued on; bridged copies elsewhere are not counted again.
- **Price** (`price`, USD): Price at the day's last block, from the source named in the price source column.
- **Price source** (`price_source`): The on-chain oracle feed that was read, or a note that the price is an off-chain reference.
- **Circulating supply** (`circulating_supply`, tokens): Total supply minus documented locked, vesting, treasury and team balances at the same block.
- **Total supply** (`total_supply`, tokens): Every unit that exists at the day's last block, read from the contract or from the chain's issuance.
- **Market cap** (`market_cap`, USD): Circulating supply multiplied by price.
- **Fully diluted valuation** (`fdv`, USD): Price multiplied by maximum supply, or by total supply where no maximum is set.
- **Supply source** (`supply_source`): Whether supply is read on-chain or reported by the issuer, and which wallets were excluded from circulation.
- **Share of total** (`share_of_total`): Market cap as a share of the total of every asset in the table.
- **Receipt** (`receipt`): The block, hash and reads behind the row's supply and price.

## How it will be measured

- Total supply of EVM tokens is totalSupply() at the day's last block on each chain, scaled by decimals, with bridged copies counted once at their home chain.
- Bitcoin supply is the block subsidy summed through the day's last block; ether supply is the genesis allocation plus issuance to miners and validators, minus base fees burned.
- Circulating supply is total supply minus the balances of documented treasury, team, vesting and locked wallets, each listed with the public source that names it.
- Price is the on-chain oracle feed at the same block where one exists and an off-chain reference price otherwise, labelled per row; market cap is circulating supply times that price.

## Data it needs

- `market_caps_daily` (to build): Market capitalization of major assets as circulating supply times a reference price, and each asset's share of the total, per day.
- `token_supply_daily` (to build): Total supply of each registry token on each chain at day end: wrapped BTC, liquid staking tokens, tokenized assets and other tracked tokens.
- `bitcoin_supply_daily` (to build): Bitcoin issued, supply by coin age band and by output script type (including coins whose public keys are already exposed), supply last moved long ago, and cost-basis measures.
- `eth_supply_daily` (to build): Daily ETH issued to validators, ETH burned through the EIP-1559 base fee, and the resulting net change in ETH supply.
- `stablecoin_supply_global_daily` (published): Cross-chain native supply per stablecoin and peg per day, on the latest day every chain has reported.
- `native_prices_daily` (to build): Reference prices of major assets read from on-chain oracle feeds (Chainlink latestRoundData) at each day's last block, with each round's update time.
- Source: ERC-20 totalSupply() at the daily close block for EVM tokens on every modeled chain
- Source: Balances of issuer-disclosed treasury, team and locked wallets, to separate circulating from total supply
- Source: Bitcoin supply as the cumulative coinbase subsidy through the daily block height
- Source: Ether supply from issuance minus burned base fees (base_fee_per_gas times gas_used per block)
- Source: Chainlink price aggregator latestRoundData() at the daily block where a USD feed exists
- Source: An off-chain spot price for coins without an on-chain feed, labelled per row

## Questions

### How is crypto market cap calculated?

Market cap is circulating supply multiplied by the current price. It measures what the coins in circulation are worth at the last traded price, not the money invested in the coin and not what could be realized by selling them all.

### What is the difference between circulating and total supply?

Total supply is every unit that exists now. Circulating supply leaves out units held in locked, vesting, treasury or team wallets that cannot yet trade. The gap between them is supply still to reach the market.

### What is fully diluted valuation?

Fully diluted valuation multiplies the price by the maximum supply, or by total supply where no maximum is set. It shows what the coin would be worth at today's price if every unit already existed and circulated.

### Why does on-chain supply matter for rankings?

A ranking is only as good as the supply behind it. Reading supply from the chain at a known block means anyone can re-check it, and it shows clearly where a figure still rests on an issuer's own statement about its locked wallets.

### Are stablecoins included in the market cap rankings?

Yes. Stablecoins are listed with their supply read from each issuing chain, and they can be filtered out to rank only the assets whose price floats.

## Glossary

- **Circulating supply**: Units that exist and can trade now: total supply minus balances in documented locked, vesting, treasury and team wallets.
- **Fully diluted valuation**: Price multiplied by maximum supply, or by total supply where none is set: the market cap if every unit circulated.
- **Total supply**: Every unit that currently exists, read from the token contract or from the chain's issuance at a given block.
