**Question:** Which blockchains process the most transactions per day?

- Kind: Table in Voltfin Strata
- Topic: [Layer 1 chains](https://voltfincrypto.com/topics/chains)
- Chains: Multi-chain, Solana, BNB Chain, Tron, Base, Ethereum, Polygon, TON
- Status: Planned. The data is not published yet, so this page states no figure; each figure will open its receipt when it is.

Transaction counts are the most quoted measure of a chain's use and among the hardest to compare, because each chain counts differently: Solana once recorded validator votes as transactions, Tron mixes simple transfers with contract calls and bots can send large numbers of transactions that do little. This table counts every chain's transactions per UTC day with one written rule per chain, and shows what share succeeded and how concentrated the senders are.

Sort it to find the busiest chains, check the success rate to see how much of a count is failed attempts and read the top-sender share to spot activity driven by a few addresses. Each row is pinned to the day's first and last block on its chain, with a receipt for the count.

## Blueprint

One row: One row per chain on the latest complete UTC day

- **Chain** (`chain`): The chain the row counts.
- **Layer** (`layer`): Whether the chain is a layer 1 or a layer 2 that settles on another chain.
- **Execution environment** (`vm`): EVM, SVM, TVM, Move or another runtime, to compare chains of one kind.
- **Transactions** (`transactions`): Transactions included in the day's blocks, successful and failed.
- **Success rate** (`success_rate`): Successful transactions as a share of all transactions on the day.
- **7-day change** (`change_7d`): Change in transactions against the same chain's count 7 days earlier.
- **30-day change** (`change_30d`): Change in transactions against the same chain's count 30 days earlier.
- **Average TPS** (`tps`, tx per second): The day's transactions divided by the seconds its blocks span.
- **Top 10 senders' share** (`top_senders_share`): Share of the day's transactions sent by the chain's 10 most active addresses.
- **Receipt** (`receipt`): The first and last block of the day and the reads behind the count.

## How it will be measured

- A transaction is counted on the UTC day of the block that includes it, from each chain's own transaction records.
- Successful and failed transactions are counted apart from each chain's status field, such as the receipt status on EVM chains or meta.err on Solana.
- Solana's count leaves out the vote transactions validators sent before the Alpenglow upgrade, and Tron's separates system-contract transfers from smart-contract calls.
- The top-sender share is the part of the day's transactions sent by the 10 most active addresses on that chain, a simple test for activity driven by bots.
- Changes compare the day with the same chain's count 7 and 30 days earlier, and every row links to the blocks and reads behind it.

## Data it needs

- `chain_activity_daily` (to build): Transactions, active sending addresses, new addresses, contracts created and gas used on each chain per day, counted from blocks and transactions.
- `address_labels` (to build): Labels for known addresses: exchanges, bridges, protocols, funds, treasuries, sanctioned addresses and known attackers.
- Source: Each chain's transactions per UTC day with their status: EVM receipt status, Solana meta.err, Tron contract result
- Source: Solana Vote program transactions, kept out of the count
- Source: Tron contract types, to split system-contract transfers from smart-contract calls
- Source: The sender of each transaction, for the 10 most active senders per chain per day

## Questions

### Which blockchain has the most transactions per day?

The leader changes with activity, and the answer depends on what counts as a transaction. Sort the table by transactions for the latest day, then read the success rate and the top-sender share beside it before comparing chains.

### Why do sources disagree on transaction counts?

They count different things: some include Solana's former vote transactions or failed transactions, some count only user-signed transactions and some add internal calls. This table states its rule for each chain and keeps successes and failures apart.

### What does a high top-sender share mean?

That a few addresses send a large part of the chain's transactions, which usually means bots, market makers or a single app. It does not make the activity fake, but it does mean the count says less about how many people use the chain.

### Are layer 2 networks included?

Yes. Layer 2 networks are rows like any other chain, counted from their own blocks. Their transactions settle on another chain in batches, which the layer 2 pages show separately.

## Glossary

- **Failed transaction**: A transaction included in a block whose execution reverted. It still paid its fee but changed nothing else.
- **Top-sender share**: The share of a day's transactions sent by the 10 most active addresses on that chain.
- **Execution environment**: The virtual machine a chain runs, such as the EVM, the SVM, the TVM or Move, which shapes what one transaction can do.
