**Question:** How much was liquidated on DeFi lending markets and perp DEXs in the last 24 hours?

- Kind: Dashboard in Voltfin Vantage
- Topic: [DeFi](https://voltfincrypto.com/topics/defi)
- Chains: Multi-chain, Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum, Hyperliquid
- Status: Planned. The data is not published yet, so this page states no figure; each figure will open its receipt when it is.

A liquidation happens when a borrower's collateral no longer covers their debt by the margin a lending market requires, or when a trader's margin on a perp DEX falls below maintenance. On-chain, each one is a transaction with an event that names the collateral seized, the debt repaid and who did it. This dashboard collects those events across lending markets and perp DEXs and adds them up by hour, day and week.

Use it after a sharp price move to see how much was force-sold on each protocol and chain and which positions were the largest. Each liquidation is valued at the oracle price of its own block and links to its transaction, so any total can be traced to the events behind it.

## Blueprint

### Last 24 hours

Liquidations over the last hour and day, by protocol and chain.

- **Liquidated, last hour** (USD): Collateral seized in liquidations over the last hour across every covered protocol, valued at each event's block price.
- **Liquidated, last 24 hours** (USD): Collateral seized in liquidations over the last 24 hours across lending markets and perp DEXs.
- **Liquidations, last 24 hours** (count): Liquidation events in the last 24 hours, each one a decoded event in a transaction.
- **Largest liquidation, 24 hours** (USD): The largest single liquidation of the last 24 hours, with its protocol, chain and transaction.
- **Liquidations by protocol and chain** (USD): Liquidated value over the last 24 hours for each protocol, each bar split by chain.
- **Largest liquidations**: The largest liquidations of the last 24 hours: time, protocol, chain, collateral seized, debt repaid, bonus and transaction.

### History

Liquidations by day, bad debt and the split between lending and perps.

- **Liquidated, last 7 days** (USD): Collateral seized in liquidations over the last seven days.
- **Bad debt, period** (USD): Debt left uncovered after liquidations in the period, where the protocol reports it.
- **Lending and perps** (USD): The split of liquidated value in the period between lending markets and perp DEXs.
- **Liquidations by day** (USD): Liquidated value on each day of the period, stacked by protocol.

Filters: Protocol (Aave, Spark, Compound, Morpho, Euler, Sky, Hyperliquid or all); Chain (Every covered chain, or all chains); Period (Last 7, 30 or 90 days).

## How it will be measured

- Lending liquidations are decoded from each protocol's events: Aave v3 and SparkLend LiquidationCall, Compound v3 AbsorbCollateral and AbsorbDebt, Morpho Blue Liquidate, Euler v2 Liquidate and Sky Dog Bark.
- Perp DEX liquidations come from HyperCore fills marked as liquidations in node trade data; auto-deleveraging fills are counted apart, because they close profitable positions rather than failing ones.
- Each liquidation is valued with Chainlink latestRoundData at its own block: collateral seized and debt repaid are shown separately, and the gap between them is the liquidation bonus, part of which some protocols keep as a fee.
- Bad debt is recorded where a protocol reports it, such as Morpho Blue's badDebtAssets, so a liquidation that left debt uncovered is visible.
- Hourly, daily and weekly totals add the liquidations whose blocks fall in each UTC window.

## Data it needs

- `liquidations` (to build): Every liquidation on major lending markets and perp venues: collateral seized, debt repaid, liquidator, and the price at the time.
- `native_prices_daily` (to build): Reference prices of major assets read from on-chain oracle feeds (Chainlink latestRoundData) at each day's last block, with each round's update time.
- Source: Aave v3 and SparkLend Pool LiquidationCall events: collateralAsset, debtAsset, user, debtToCover, liquidatedCollateralAmount and liquidator
- Source: Compound v3 Comet AbsorbCollateral and AbsorbDebt events
- Source: Morpho Blue Liquidate events: repaidAssets, seizedAssets and badDebtAssets
- Source: Euler v2 EVault Liquidate events
- Source: Sky Dog Bark events
- Source: HyperCore liquidation and auto-deleveraging fills from node trade data
- Source: Chainlink latestRoundData at each liquidation block for USD values

## Questions

### What is a DeFi liquidation?

When the value of a borrower's collateral falls too close to their debt, anyone can repay part of the debt and take collateral at a discount. The discount pays liquidators to act quickly, which keeps the lending market solvent.

### Why do liquidations spike when prices fall?

Many borrowers post volatile assets such as ETH as collateral against stablecoin loans. A fast fall pushes many positions past their limits at once, and the collateral that liquidators sell can push prices further, so liquidations cluster in sharp moves.

### What is auto-deleveraging?

On a perp DEX, when a liquidated position cannot be closed in the market without a loss the venue cannot cover, the venue closes positions on the profitable side against it. Those closures are not failed trades, so this dashboard counts them apart from liquidations.

### Who are liquidators?

Mostly automated bots that watch positions and send a liquidation transaction the moment one becomes eligible. They earn the liquidation bonus and compete on speed and on the fees they pay to be included first.

### Are centralized exchange liquidations included?

No. This dashboard counts liquidations that settle on-chain. Liquidations on centralized exchanges happen inside private order books and cannot be read from any chain.

## Glossary

- **Health factor**: Aave's measure of a position's safety: collateral weighted by its liquidation threshold, divided by debt. Below one, the position can be liquidated.
- **Liquidation bonus**: The discount a liquidator receives on seized collateral, set per asset by each protocol.
- **Bad debt**: Debt left after a position's collateral is gone, which the protocol or its depositors must absorb.
- **Auto-deleveraging**: A perp venue's last resort: closing profitable positions against a bankrupt one when the market cannot absorb it.
