About

What it answers, and for whom.

ENS names such as alice.eth are registered for a term, not bought outright. A registrant commits to a name, waits briefly, then registers it for a period and pays an annual fee set in US dollars and charged in ETH, with short names priced highest. This dashboard reads every registration and renewal from the .eth registrar contracts on Ethereum, with the fee paid and the new expiry.

Names that are not renewed expire into a grace period in which only the owner can renew, then into a temporary premium window in which anyone can register them at a price that decays toward the base fee. The dashboard counts the names in each stage and the names re-registered by someone new, and it shows registration fees by day, since that revenue goes to the ENS DAO treasury.

ENS Labs has said ENSv2 will be deployed on Ethereum mainnet. Its registrar will be added when it is live, and every rule is read from the contracts in force at the time.

Method

How it will be measured.

Every figure will be read at a block, kept with its source and its exact read, and open a receipt anyone can re-check.

How receipts work →
  1. Registrations and renewals are NameRegistered and NameRenewed events from the .eth registrar controllers, which carry the name, the cost paid and the new expiry, including events from earlier controller versions.
  2. Active names are .eth names whose expiry in the base registrar is in the future at the day's last block; expired names are placed in the grace period or the premium window by the registrar's rules in force.
  3. Fees are the ETH sent with each registration and renewal, valued at oracle prices; the temporary premium is shown apart from the base price, so a contested expired name does not read as ordinary demand.
  4. Name length is the character count of the normalized label, since prices are set by length; subnames are not counted, because they are not registered through the .eth registrar.

Questions

Questions people ask.

How much does an ENS domain cost?

A .eth name has an annual fee set in US dollars by length, with three- and four-character names priced well above longer ones, paid in ETH at an oracle exchange rate, plus gas. The dashboard shows what registrants actually paid, by name length and by day.

What happens when an ENS name expires?

Under the current .eth registrar the owner first has a grace period in which only they can renew. The name then enters a temporary premium window, a price on top of the base fee that decays to zero over 21 days, and after that anyone can register it at the base price.

Can anyone renew an ENS name?

Yes. The registrar accepts a renewal payment for any .eth name from any address, and the name stays with its owner. Only a new registration after expiry changes who owns it.

Where do ENS registration fees go?

Registration and renewal fees collect in the registrar controller and are sent to the ENS DAO treasury, which funds the protocol's development and grants. The dashboard shows the fees by day and links them to the treasury transfers.

What is ENSv2?

The next version of the ENS contracts. In 2026 ENS Labs said ENSv2 would be deployed directly on Ethereum mainnet instead of on a dedicated layer 2. Its registrar will be added to this dashboard when it is live.

Commit and reveal
ENS's two-step registration: a registrant first commits a hash of the name, then registers after a short wait, so others cannot front-run the choice.
Grace period
The window after a .eth name expires in which only its owner can renew it.
Temporary premium
An extra price on a just-released .eth name that decays to zero over 21 days, so a release does not simply reward the fastest bot.
