# ETH Burn Leaderboard: Top Contracts by ETH Burned

> A leaderboard of the contracts and apps that burn the most ETH: base fees burned by the transactions each contract receives and blob fees by rollup.

**Question:** Which contracts burned the most ETH in base fees and blob fees over the last day, week and month?

- Kind: Table in Voltfin Strata
- Topic: [Ethereum](https://voltfincrypto.com/topics/ethereum)
- Chains: Ethereum
- Status: Planned. The data is not published yet, so this page states no figure; each figure will open its receipt when it is.

Every Ethereum transaction burns its base fee and every blob burns its blob base fee, so each unit of ETH destroyed can be traced to the transaction that paid it. This leaderboard ranks the contracts behind the burn: the DEX routers, stablecoins, bridges, bots and rollups whose transactions destroyed the most ETH over the last day, week and month.

It is the drill-down behind the supply question. When the burn falls short of issuance, ETH supply grows, and this table shows which kinds of activity still burn the most and which have moved to layer 2s. Spam waves, airdrop claims and token launches appear as sudden new entries, and their share of the total shows how much one event drove.

Each row links to the reads behind it: the block range, the receipts summed and the base fee of every block, so a ranking can be checked rather than taken on trust.

## Blueprint

One row: One row per contract (to address) per window: the last day, 7 days or 30 days, ending at a finalized block

- **Rank** (`rank`): Position in the window by ETH burned.
- **Contract** (`contract`): The to address the burn is credited to, with its name where known.
- **App or protocol** (`app`): The app, protocol or rollup the contract belongs to, from the label registry.
- **Category** (`category`): DEX, stablecoin, bridge, NFT, bot, rollup, wallet transfer or other.
- **Window** (`window`): The last day, the last 7 days or the last 30 days.
- **ETH burned** (`eth_burned`, ETH): Base fees and, for rollup batchers, blob fees burned in the window.
- **Share of burn** (`share_of_burn`): This row's part of all ETH burned in the same window.
- **Transactions** (`transactions`): Transactions sent to the contract in the window.
- **Burn per transaction** (`burn_per_tx`, ETH): ETH burned per transaction to the contract, on average.
- **Blob fees** (`blob_fees`, ETH): The part burned as blob fees, for rows that are rollup batchers.
- **Change** (`change_vs_prior`): Change in ETH burned against the previous window of the same length.
- **Receipt** (`receipt`): The block range, reads and totals behind the row.

## How it will be measured

- ETH burned by a transaction is its gas used times the base fee per gas of its block, read from the transaction receipt and the block header.
- Each burn is credited to the transaction's to address; a contract creation is credited to the new contract, and plain ETH transfers between wallets form one row of their own.
- Blob fees are the blob gas used times the blob base fee of the block, credited to the sender of each blob transaction and labelled to its rollup.
- Windows are the last day, 7 days and 30 days ending at a finalized block, and every row carries the block range and the totals behind it.

## Data it needs

- `eth_supply_daily` (to build): Daily ETH issued to validators, ETH burned through the EIP-1559 base fee, and the resulting net change in ETH supply.
- `chain_fees_daily` (to build): Fees paid per chain per day in the native token: base fee and priority fee percentiles, total fees, and the share burned where the chain burns fees.
- `blob_usage_daily` (to build): EIP-4844 blobs posted per day, blob gas used, blob base fee, and the rollup that posted them.
- `address_labels` (to build): Labels for known addresses: exchanges, bridges, protocols, funds, treasuries, sanctioned addresses and known attackers.
- Source: Ethereum block headers: base_fee_per_gas, blob_gas_used and excess_blob_gas
- Source: Transaction receipts: gas_used and the to address, summed per contract per day
- Source: Type 3 blob transactions and their senders, labelled to rollups
- Source: Verified contract names and a reviewed label registry for apps

## Questions

### Why is ETH burned at all?

Since EIP-1559, the base fee of every transaction is destroyed instead of being paid to the block proposer. The protocol sets the base fee from how full recent blocks were, so the burn rises with demand for block space and falls when blocks are empty.

### Which apps burn the most ETH?

It changes with what people do on Ethereum. DEX routers, stablecoin transfers, bridges and trading bots usually sit near the top, while a large token launch or a spam wave can lead the table for a day. The leaderboard shows the ranking for each window rather than a fixed list.

### Do rollups burn ETH?

Yes. When a rollup posts its data to Ethereum it pays blob fees, and the blob base fee is burned like the regular base fee. Those rows are labelled by rollup and kept apart from ordinary contract calls, because blob gas is priced in a fee market of its own.

### Why does a busy contract sometimes burn little?

Burn is gas times the base fee at the moment the gas is used. A contract used heavily at quiet hours, when the base fee is low, burns less than one used during spikes. The gas guzzlers table ranks contracts by gas used instead, which ignores the price.

### Are priority fees included?

No. Priority fees, or tips, go to block proposers and are never burned, so they are left out of the ranking. The network revenue page shows tips beside the burn for the same days.

## Glossary

- **Base fee**: The protocol-set price per unit of gas that every transaction in a block pays, adjusted block by block and destroyed when paid.
- **Blob base fee**: The price per unit of blob gas for the data blobs rollups post to Ethereum, set by its own fee market and burned like the base fee.
- **To address**: The account a transaction calls directly. For most app activity it is the app's router or main contract.
