**Question:** How is Gnosis Chain used, and how much xDAI and GNO stand behind it?

- Kind: Dashboard in Voltfin Vantage
- Topic: [Layer 1 chains](https://voltfincrypto.com/topics/chains)
- Chains: Gnosis
- Status: Planned. The data is not published yet, so this page states no figure; each figure will open its receipt when it is.

Gnosis Chain is an EVM chain that pays gas in xDAI, a bridged dollar token, and is secured by validators that stake GNO on its own beacon chain, run with Ethereum's client software. This dashboard reads every block to show the chain's daily activity, the xDAI in circulation and moving through its bridge, the validators and GNO securing it and the base fee the chain collects.

Some Gnosis rules differ from Ethereum's: its base fee is collected at a fee collector address rather than burned, and a validator needs only one GNO, so validator counts run high. The bridge page sets xDAI supply against the reserves held on Ethereum. Every figure is pinned to the block it was read at, with a receipt.

## Blueprint

### Activity

Transactions, active addresses, new contracts and xDAI in circulation.

- **Transactions, latest day** (count): Transactions in Gnosis Chain blocks on the latest complete UTC day.
- **Active addresses, latest day** (count): Distinct senders of successful transactions on the latest complete day.
- **New contracts, latest day** (count): Contracts created on the latest complete day, from create and create2 calls in traces, Safe smart accounts included.
- **xDAI in circulation** (xDAI): xDAI minted by the bridge minus xDAI burned for withdrawals, at the latest day-end block.
- **Transactions and active addresses by day** (count): Daily transactions and active addresses over the selected period, so growth in users can be told apart from more activity per address.

### Validators and bridge

Validators and GNO staked, base fees collected and the xDAI bridge.

- **Active validators** (count): Active validators on the Gnosis Beacon Chain at the latest epoch boundary.
- **GNO staked** (GNO): GNO staked by active validators at the latest epoch boundary.
- **Base fee collected, latest day** (xDAI): Base fees paid on the latest complete day, sent to the fee collector rather than burned.
- **Bridge net flow, latest day** (xDAI): Deposits into the xDAI bridge minus withdrawals on the latest complete day.
- **xDAI bridge by day** (xDAI): Deposits and withdrawals through the xDAI bridge each day over the selected period, with the bridge's reserves on Ethereum at each day's end.

Filters: Period (Last 30 days, 90 days or a year).

## How it will be measured

- Activity is counted from every Gnosis Chain block per UTC day, with the same rules as on other EVM chains.
- The base fee is read from block headers times gas used; on Gnosis it is sent to a fee collector address rather than burned, so it is reported as collected and checked against that address's balance.
- Validators and GNO staked come from the Gnosis Beacon Chain at each epoch boundary; one GNO activates a validator, so the count reflects stake, and one operator often runs many validators.
- xDAI is minted against deposits into the xDAI bridge on Ethereum and burned on withdrawal, so its supply is checked against the bridge's reserves on Ethereum at the same day's end, and every figure carries a receipt.

## Data it needs

- `chain_activity_daily` (to build): Transactions, active sending addresses, new addresses, contracts created and gas used on each chain per day, counted from blocks and transactions.
- `chain_fees_daily` (to build): Fees paid per chain per day in the native token: base fee and priority fee percentiles, total fees, and the share burned where the chain burns fees.
- `bridge_flows_daily` (to build): Deposits into and withdrawals out of canonical and major third-party bridges by chain, token and day, plus escrow balances at day end.
- `staking_networks_daily` (to build): Staked supply, staking ratio, validators and nominal rewards per proof-of-stake network per day.
- Source: Gnosis Chain blocks and transactions: gas used, base fee, effective gas price, sender and status
- Source: Balance changes of the fee collector address named in the chain configuration
- Source: Gnosis Beacon Chain validator set and balances at epoch boundaries, and the GNO deposit contract
- Source: xDAI bridge events on Ethereum and Gnosis Chain (deposits, withdrawal requests and executed withdrawals), and the bridge's reserves on Ethereum at day-end blocks

## Questions

### What is xDAI?

Gnosis Chain's native token for gas. It is minted when DAI is deposited into the xDAI bridge on Ethereum and burned when it is withdrawn, so its value tracks the dollar and fees are paid in a stable unit. The bridge's reserves on Ethereum back it.

### How many validators does Gnosis Chain have?

Far more than most chains, because a validator needs only one GNO of stake, which lets home stakers run one. The dashboard counts active validators on the Gnosis Beacon Chain each epoch; a single operator often runs many of them, so the count is not the number of operators.

### Does Gnosis Chain burn fees?

No. Gnosis Chain uses Ethereum's fee mechanism, but its chain configuration sends the base fee to a fee collector address instead of burning it, and priority fees go to validators. The dashboard reports the base fee as collected and follows the collector's balance.

### Where does sDAI yield on Gnosis come from?

The xDAI bridge puts the DAI it holds on Ethereum into a savings rate and sends the interest to Gnosis Chain, where it accrues to holders of Savings xDAI, or sDAI. The bridge page follows deposits, withdrawals and the reserves behind xDAI.

### How is Gnosis Chain related to Ethereum?

It runs the same execution and consensus client software as Ethereum, with its own beacon chain, shorter slots and GNO as the staking token, and it adopts Ethereum's upgrades on its own schedule. Assets move between the two chains through bridges.

## Glossary

- **xDAI**: Gnosis Chain's gas token, minted against DAI deposited in the xDAI bridge on Ethereum and burned on withdrawal.
- **GNO**: The token Gnosis Chain validators stake on the Gnosis Beacon Chain, one GNO per validator.
- **Gnosis Beacon Chain**: Gnosis Chain's proof-of-stake consensus layer, run with Ethereum's consensus clients on shorter slots.
- **Fee collector**: The address Gnosis Chain's configuration sends base fees to, in place of the burn Ethereum applies.
