**Question:** How busy is Linea, what does gas cost there and how much ETH and LINEA has its burn destroyed?

- Kind: Dashboard in Voltfin Vantage
- Topic: [Layer 2s](https://voltfincrypto.com/topics/layer-2)
- Chains: Linea, Ethereum
- Status: Planned. The data is not published yet, so this page states no figure; each figure will open its receipt when it is.

Linea is a zkEVM rollup on Ethereum started by Consensys. Gas is paid in ETH, and each batch of blocks is proven with a validity proof before it is final on Ethereum. This dashboard follows Linea's daily transactions, active addresses and fees, along with the data and finalization transactions it pays Ethereum for.

Linea is also known for its dual burn. Fees collect in a revenue vault on Linea; once infrastructure costs are paid, a fifth of the surplus is burned as ETH and the rest buys LINEA on a Linea DEX, which is bridged to Ethereum and burned there. The dashboard reads each step of that loop, so every token burned can be traced to the fees that paid for it.

Gas on Linea is priced differently from most rollups. The base fee rests at a floor of seven wei, and the priority fee carries the variable cost of posting data to Ethereum, which each block publishes in its header. The gas figures read both from every block.

## Blueprint

### Activity and gas

Transactions, active addresses and fees on Linea, with what a token transfer costs now.

- **Transactions, latest day** (count): Transactions in Linea blocks on the latest complete UTC day.
- **Active addresses, latest day** (count): Distinct addresses that sent at least one transaction on Linea on the latest complete UTC day.
- **Priority fee now, median** (gwei): The median priority fee in the latest Linea blocks, which carries Linea's variable data cost above the base fee floor.
- **Cost of a token transfer now** (USD): What a token transfer costs at the latest block, from its gas and the current median priority fee.
- **Transactions and active addresses by day** (count): Daily transactions and daily active addresses on Linea over the selected period.
- **Paid to Ethereum by day** (ETH): What Linea paid Ethereum each day, split into blob fees for data submission and gas for finalization transactions and their proofs.

### Burn

ETH and LINEA burned from Linea's surplus, cycle by cycle.

- **ETH burned to date** (ETH): ETH sent from the revenue vault to the zero address since the burn began.
- **LINEA burned to date** (LINEA): LINEA destroyed by the token burner on Ethereum since the burn began.
- **Burn by week** (ETH): ETH burned and ETH spent on LINEA each week, from the burn transactions.
- **Every burn cycle**: Each cycle: fees swept, invoices paid, ETH burned, ETH swapped, LINEA bought and LINEA burned, with the transactions on Linea and Ethereum.

Filters: Period (Last week, month, quarter or year).

## How it will be measured

- Transactions and active addresses are counted per UTC day from Linea blocks; an address is active on a day when it sends at least one transaction.
- Fees are gas used times effective gas price from receipts, split into the base fee at its floor and the priority fee above it; the variable data cost is read from each block's extraData field.
- Burns are read as transactions: ETH sent from the RollupRevenueVault to the zero address, ETH swapped for LINEA through the V3DexSwapAdapter and LINEA burned by the L1LineaTokenBurner on Ethereum, matched across the bridge.
- Costs paid to Ethereum are the gas and blob fees of Linea's data submission and finalization transactions to the LineaRollup contract, read from Ethereum receipts.
- Every figure names the Linea or Ethereum block it was read at, with the read behind it.

## Data it needs

- `chain_activity_daily` (to build): Transactions, active sending addresses, new addresses, contracts created and gas used on each chain per day, counted from blocks and transactions.
- `gas_blocks` (to build): Base fee, priority fee percentiles, gas used and gas limit for each block on fee-market chains, for a near-live gas tracker.
- `l2_activity_daily` (to build): Per layer 2 per day: transactions, active addresses, fees users paid on the L2, and what the L2 paid Ethereum to settle and post data.
- `protocol_revenue_daily` (to build): Fees users paid to each protocol and the part kept by the protocol or its token holders, per protocol and day, including buybacks.
- `token_supply_daily` (to build): Total supply of each registry token on each chain at day end: wrapped BTC, liquid staking tokens, tokenized assets and other tracked tokens.
- `native_prices_daily` (to build): Reference prices of major assets read from on-chain oracle feeds (Chainlink latestRoundData) at each day's last block, with each round's update time.

## Questions

### How does the Linea burn work?

Gas fees on Linea are paid in ETH into a revenue vault. After infrastructure costs are covered, a fifth of the surplus is burned as ETH and the rest is swapped for LINEA on a Linea DEX, bridged to Ethereum and burned there. Anyone can trigger the final burn step on Ethereum.

### When did the Linea burn start?

The dual burn went live in November 2025 and also covered fees collected since September 2025, around the launch of the LINEA token. The dashboard lists every burn transaction from the first one on.

### Why does the Linea base fee never move?

Linea applies the EIP-1559 rule, but its base fee sits at a floor of seven wei, where the change from one block to the next rounds down to nothing. The price that moves is the priority fee, which wallets estimate from the data cost each block publishes, so the dashboard charts the priority fee.

### Does LINEA have governance rights?

No. LINEA carries no governance rights and is not needed to pay gas, which is paid in ETH. Most of its supply is set aside for the ecosystem, and the Consensys allocation is locked and non-transferable for five years.

### Is ETH bridged to Linea staked?

In 2026 Linea began staking part of the ETH held by its canonical bridge on Ethereum through Lido v3, a feature it calls Yield Boost. The dashboard reads the staked amount from the bridge and vault contracts and shows it beside the ETH held unstaked.

## Glossary

- **zkEVM**: A rollup that runs Ethereum's virtual machine and proves its execution with zero-knowledge proofs.
- **Finalization**: The step at which Ethereum accepts a proof for a range of Linea blocks, after which messages and withdrawals from them can be claimed.
- **Revenue vault**: The contract on Linea that collects gas fees, pays infrastructure invoices and funds the burn from what is left.
