**Question:** How busy is Mantle, what does gas cost in MNT and what does Mantle pay Ethereum to settle?

- Kind: Dashboard in Voltfin Vantage
- Topic: [Layer 2s](https://voltfincrypto.com/topics/layer-2)
- Chains: Mantle, Ethereum
- Status: Planned. The data is not published yet, so this page states no figure; each figure will open its receipt when it is.

Mantle is an Ethereum layer 2 built on a fork of the OP Stack whose gas token is MNT rather than ETH. This dashboard reads its blocks for daily transactions, active addresses and fees. It converts each fee into ETH and USD terms so that Mantle compares fairly with rollups that charge in ether.

Its architecture has changed more than most. Mantle launched with its data on EigenDA, moved to zero-knowledge validity proofs through OP Succinct and in April 2026 moved its transaction data to Ethereum blobs with the Arsia upgrade, which also separated the L1 data cost from L2 execution gas. The charts mark each change, since each one changed what Mantle pays Ethereum.

Mantle is also home to mETH, the liquid staking token of the mETH Protocol, whose ETH is staked with Ethereum validators. A second page follows mETH's supply on Ethereum and Mantle and its exchange rate against ETH.

## Blueprint

### Activity and fees

Transactions, active addresses and fees on Mantle, in MNT and in ETH terms.

- **Transactions, latest day** (count): Transactions in Mantle blocks on the latest complete UTC day, leaving out the L1 attributes deposit that opens each block.
- **Active addresses, latest day** (count): Distinct addresses that sent at least one transaction on Mantle on the latest complete UTC day.
- **Fees paid, latest day** (MNT): Fees paid on Mantle on the latest complete day, in MNT: execution, L1 data and operator fees from receipts.
- **Median transaction fee** (USD): The median fee per transaction on Mantle on the latest complete day, converted to USD.
- **Transactions and active addresses by day** (count): Daily transactions and daily active addresses on Mantle over the selected period.
- **Fees collected and paid to Ethereum** (ETH): Daily fees in ETH terms beside what Mantle paid Ethereum for blobs and proofs, with the dates of its data and proof changes marked.

### mETH

The supply and exchange rate of mETH, the mETH Protocol's liquid staking token.

- **mETH supply** (mETH): mETH totalSupply() on Ethereum at the latest day-end block, with the amount bridged to Mantle shown apart.
- **mETH to ETH rate** (ETH): The ETH that one mETH redeems for at the latest day-end block, from the protocol's staking contract.
- **Realized mETH yield** (%): The annualized change in mETH's exchange rate between pinned blocks, week by week.
- **mETH supply by chain over time** (mETH): mETH supply on Ethereum and on Mantle at each day-end block over the selected period.

Filters: Period (Last week, month, quarter or year).

## How it will be measured

- Transactions and active addresses are counted per UTC day from Mantle blocks, leaving out the L1 attributes deposit that opens each block.
- Fees are paid in MNT: gas used times effective gas price plus the L1 data fee and operator fee from each receipt, converted to ETH at the ratio Mantle's gas price oracle applied at that block.
- Costs paid to Ethereum are the blob fees of Mantle's batcher and the gas of its output and proof transactions, read from Ethereum receipts.
- mETH supply is totalSupply() on Ethereum and on Mantle at day-end blocks, kept apart, and its rate against ETH is read from the mETH Protocol's staking contract.
- Every figure names its Mantle or Ethereum block and the read behind it.

## Data it needs

- `chain_activity_daily` (to build): Transactions, active sending addresses, new addresses, contracts created and gas used on each chain per day, counted from blocks and transactions.
- `chain_fees_daily` (to build): Fees paid per chain per day in the native token: base fee and priority fee percentiles, total fees, and the share burned where the chain burns fees.
- `l2_activity_daily` (to build): Per layer 2 per day: transactions, active addresses, fees users paid on the L2, and what the L2 paid Ethereum to settle and post data.
- `token_supply_daily` (to build): Total supply of each registry token on each chain at day end: wrapped BTC, liquid staking tokens, tokenized assets and other tracked tokens.
- `lst_rates_daily` (to build): Exchange rates of liquid staking and restaking tokens (wstETH, rETH, cbETH, weETH and others) at day end, and the realized yield they imply.
- `native_prices_daily` (to build): Reference prices of major assets read from on-chain oracle feeds (Chainlink latestRoundData) at each day's last block, with each round's update time.

## Questions

### Why does Mantle use MNT for gas?

MNT is Mantle's native token, so fees are priced and paid in it. The part of a fee that covers posting data to Ethereum is worked out in ETH and converted to MNT at a ratio set in Mantle's gas price oracle, which a permissioned updater maintains.

### Is Mantle a rollup or a validium?

Mantle kept its transaction data off Ethereum on EigenDA for most of its history, which made it a validium-style chain. In 2026 it moved that data to Ethereum blobs, and with validity proofs from OP Succinct it now settles as a zk rollup. The dashboard dates each change.

### What is mETH?

mETH is the liquid staking token of the mETH Protocol. ETH deposited is staked with Ethereum validators, and mETH's exchange rate against ETH rises as staking rewards accrue. It is issued on Ethereum and can be bridged to Mantle.

### How long does a withdrawal from Mantle take?

With validity proofs, a withdrawal can be finalized on Ethereum once a proof covering its block has been verified, instead of waiting out an optimistic rollup's challenge window. The withdrawal times dashboard measures it from Mantle's contracts.

### What does Mantle pay Ethereum?

Since moving its data to Ethereum, Mantle pays blob fees for each batch and gas for the transactions that propose and prove its state. The dashboard sums those costs by day beside the fees Mantle collected, both in ETH terms.

## Glossary

- **MNT**: Mantle's native token, used to pay gas on Mantle and to govern the network.
- **Token ratio**: The ETH to MNT conversion that Mantle's gas price oracle applies to price data costs in MNT.
- **OP Succinct**: A way of running an OP Stack chain with zero-knowledge validity proofs from the SP1 zkVM instead of fault proofs.
- **mETH**: The mETH Protocol's liquid staking token, whose exchange rate against ETH rises as staking rewards accrue.
