**Question:** How much bitcoin does the Mt. Gox estate still hold, and has it moved?

- Kind: Dashboard in Voltfin Vantage
- Topic: [Bitcoin](https://voltfincrypto.com/topics/bitcoin)
- Chains: Bitcoin
- Status: Planned. The data is not published yet, so this page states no figure; each figure will open its receipt when it is.

Mt. Gox was the largest bitcoin exchange of its early years and collapsed in 2014 after losing most of its customers' coins. Its estate, run by a court-appointed trustee in Tokyo, has been repaying creditors through designated exchanges since 2024 and still holds a large balance. This dashboard reads the wallets attributed to the estate at every block, so a move shows up as soon as it confirms.

Each transfer out of the estate is followed to where it lands: a repayment exchange, a new estate wallet or an unknown address. In October 2026 the trustee moved the repayment deadline to October 31, 2027, so the deadline tile shows that date and changes only when a new notice does.

## Blueprint

### Estate wallets

What the estate holds, what has moved and where it went.

- **Estate balance** (BTC): Bitcoin in unspent outputs of every address attributed to the estate, at the latest block.
- **Moved out, 30 days** (BTC): Bitcoin sent from estate addresses to addresses outside the estate in the last 30 days.
- **Days since the last move** (days): Days since the latest transaction that spent an estate output.
- **Repayment deadline** (date): The repayment deadline set by the trustee's latest notice, linked to that notice.
- **Estate balance over time** (BTC): Bitcoin held by estate addresses at each day's last block since the estate's coins were first identified on-chain.
- **Transfers out by destination** (BTC): Bitcoin leaving the estate per month, split into repayment exchanges, new estate wallets and unknown addresses.
- **Estate addresses**: Each attributed address with its balance, its last activity and the evidence that ties it to the estate.
- **Latest transfers**: Every recent transaction that spent estate outputs, with amount, destination, label and block.

## How it will be measured

- Estate addresses are those attributed to the trustee from public notices and from earlier estate transfers, each recorded with the evidence for it.
- The balance is the sum of unspent outputs paying those addresses at each block, so a transfer changes it as soon as it confirms.
- Transfers out are followed one hop: to labelled repayment exchanges, to new addresses that join the estate list on evidence or to unknown destinations.
- The repayment deadline is the date in the trustee's latest notice, recorded with that notice; it is an off-chain fact, not a chain read.

## Data it needs

- `address_labels` (to build): Labels for known addresses: exchanges, bridges, protocols, funds, treasuries, sanctioned addresses and known attackers.
- `whale_transfers` (to build): Transfers above a size threshold per token and chain, with sender and receiver labels (exchange, fund, bridge, unknown).
- `exchange_balances_daily` (to build): Balances held in labelled exchange wallets per asset, chain and exchange at day end, and net flows in and out.
- `native_prices_daily` (to build): Reference prices of major assets read from on-chain oracle feeds (Chainlink latestRoundData) at each day's last block, with each round's update time.
- Source: Unspent outputs of every address attributed to the Mt. Gox estate, read at each block
- Source: Transactions spending estate outputs, with their outputs and amounts
- Source: Exchange deposit addresses tied to announced repayments, labelled with their source
- Source: The trustee's notices on repayment deadlines, recorded with date and source
- Source: BTC/USD oracle on Ethereum, for USD values

## Questions

### How much bitcoin does Mt. Gox still hold?

The page sums the unspent outputs of every address attributed to the estate at the latest block. The figure is pinned to that block and lists the addresses behind it, so a reader can check each balance.

### When is the Mt. Gox repayment deadline?

In October 2026 the trustee extended the deadline for base, early lump-sum and intermediate repayments to October 31, 2027. The tile changes only when a new notice is published, and the notice is linked.

### Has Mt. Gox moved bitcoin today?

The latest transfers table lists every transaction that spent estate outputs, newest first, with the amount, the destination and its label. If nothing has moved, the days-since-last-move tile says how long it has been.

### Where does Mt. Gox send bitcoin?

Repayments have gone through designated exchanges that credit creditors' accounts, and the estate has also moved coins between its own wallets. Each destination is labelled where a source exists, and new estate wallets are added only on evidence.

### Does a Mt. Gox transfer mean bitcoin is being sold?

Not by itself. A move to an exchange usually means repayment to creditors, who then decide whether to keep or sell, and a move to a new wallet may be housekeeping. The page shows where coins went, not what anyone did next.

## Glossary

- **Rehabilitation trustee**: The court-appointed administrator who runs the Mt. Gox estate and decides when and how creditors are paid.
- **Civil rehabilitation**: The Japanese court process under which the Mt. Gox estate repays creditors, in place of the earlier bankruptcy.
