**Question:** How much bitcoin are public miners producing, holding and selling each month?

- Kind: Table in Voltfin Strata
- Topic: [Bitcoin](https://voltfincrypto.com/topics/bitcoin)
- Chains: Bitcoin
- Status: Planned. The data is not published yet, so this page states no figure; each figure will open its receipt when it is.

Listed bitcoin miners report how much bitcoin they mined, kept and sold, usually in monthly production updates or in quarterly filings. This table puts those figures side by side, one row per company per month, beside what the chain can check: the share of network hashrate that each company's reported hashrate implies, and the balance of any addresses the company has disclosed.

Read production against holdings to see who keeps what they mine and who sells it to cover costs, and read the second-business column for miners moving capacity into AI and high-performance computing hosting. The figures are company-reported and labelled as such; where a company discloses addresses, the on-chain balance sits beside the reported one.

## Blueprint

One row: One row per listed mining company per reporting month

- **Company** (`company`): The listed company and its ticker.
- **Month** (`period`): The month the reported figures cover.
- **Mined** (`btc_mined`, BTC): Bitcoin the company reports mining in the month.
- **Sold** (`btc_sold`, BTC): Bitcoin the company reports selling in the month.
- **Held** (`btc_held`, BTC): Bitcoin held at the month's end as reported, with pledged or lent coins included where the company counts them.
- **Reported hashrate** (`hashrate`, EH/s): Hashrate the company reports as deployed or realized at the month's end.
- **Network share** (`network_share`): Reported hashrate as a share of the network hashrate the chain implies for the month.
- **Fleet efficiency** (`efficiency`, J/TH): Reported fleet efficiency, where the company discloses it.
- **Second business** (`second_business`): AI or high-performance computing hosting the company reports beside mining, or none.
- **On-chain balance** (`onchain_balance`, BTC): Balance of company-disclosed addresses at the month's last block, where any are disclosed.
- **Source** (`source`): The update or filing behind the row's reported figures.

## How it will be measured

- Production, holdings and sales come from each company's monthly update or filing for the period, recorded with the document and its date; they are reported figures, not chain reads.
- Network share divides the hashrate a company reports by the network hashrate implied by difficulty and block times over the same period.
- Where a company has disclosed wallet addresses, their balance is read at the period's last block and shown beside the reported holdings.
- A company that stops publishing monthly updates keeps its last reported row with its date, so stale figures are never shown as current.

## Data it needs

- `treasury_holdings` (to build): Crypto held by public companies, treasury companies and governments, from filings, with on-chain addresses where disclosed.
- `bitcoin_network_daily` (to build): Blocks, hashrate implied by difficulty, difficulty, fees, transaction counts, block weight and miner revenue (subsidy plus fees) per day.
- `address_labels` (to build): Labels for known addresses: exchanges, bridges, protocols, funds, treasuries, sanctioned addresses and known attackers.
- `native_prices_daily` (to build): Reference prices of major assets read from on-chain oracle feeds (Chainlink latestRoundData) at each day's last block, with each round's update time.
- Source: Monthly production updates and quarterly filings of each covered company, recorded with document and date
- Source: Network hashrate implied by difficulty and block intervals over each period
- Source: Balances of company-disclosed addresses at each period's last block

## Questions

### Which public companies mine bitcoin?

Several companies listed in the US, Canada and elsewhere mine bitcoin at scale, among them MARA Holdings, Riot Platforms and CleanSpark. The table lists every covered company and the source of each of its rows.

### Are public miners selling their bitcoin?

Some sell most of what they mine to pay for power and equipment, while others keep it. The table shows bitcoin sold beside bitcoin mined for each company and month, so the share sold can be compared.

### Why are bitcoin miners moving into AI?

Miners hold power contracts, sites and cooling that AI and high-performance computing hosts also need, and hosting contracts can pay steadier revenue than mining when hashprice is low. The table notes each company's reported second business beside its mining figures.

### How is a miner's share of the network measured?

By dividing the hashrate the company reports for a period by the network hashrate the chain implies for the same period. Reported hashrate can differ from what was actually pointed at a pool, so the share is labelled as an estimate.

### Can miner holdings be checked on-chain?

Only where a company discloses its addresses. For those, the page reads the addresses' balance at the period's last block and shows it beside the reported holdings, with any gap visible.

## Glossary

- **Fleet efficiency**: The energy a miner's machines use per unit of hashrate, in joules per terahash.
- **Self-mining**: Mining with a company's own machines for its own account, as opposed to hosting machines for clients.
- **Hashprice**: What a unit of hashrate earns per day, from subsidy and fees, in bitcoin or dollars.
