**Question:** Which public companies hold the most bitcoin, and how much does each hold?

- Kind: Table in Voltfin Strata
- Topic: [Bitcoin](https://voltfincrypto.com/topics/bitcoin)
- Chains: Bitcoin
- Status: Planned. The data is not published yet, so this page states no figure; each figure will open its receipt when it is.

The public companies that hold the most bitcoin are ranked here by the amount each reports in its latest filing, with its share of supply, its last reported purchase and how its market value compares with the bitcoin it holds. Some hold bitcoin as a reserve beside an operating business; for others, buying and holding bitcoin is the business.

Company holdings are rarely on the chain in a form anyone can read: most companies hold coins through custodians and publish no addresses. Each row therefore cites the filing or press release behind it and its date. Where a company does disclose addresses, their balance is read on-chain at a pinned block and shown beside the reported figure.

Sort the table by holdings or by share of supply to see who holds the most, or filter it by country or by kind of company. Opening a row shows the filings behind it and, where a company discloses them, its addresses read on-chain.

## Blueprint

One row: One row per listed company that reports holding bitcoin, as of its latest filing

- **Company** (`company`): The listed company's name and ticker, linked to its filings.
- **Country** (`country`): Where the company is listed or has its headquarters.
- **Type** (`company_type`): Treasury company, miner or operating company, from the company's own description of its strategy.
- **Holdings** (`holdings`, BTC): Bitcoin held as stated in the latest filing or press release, as an exact amount.
- **Share of supply** (`share_of_supply`): Holdings as a share of circulating supply at the table date's last block.
- **As of** (`as_of`): The date the holding was measured, as the filing states it.
- **Last purchase** (`last_purchase`): The date of the most recent purchase the company has reported.
- **Value** (`holdings_value`, USD): Holdings valued at the oracle BTC/USD price of the table date's last block.
- **mNAV** (`mnav`): Market value divided by the value of holdings: an off-chain figure from exchange data, labelled with its source.
- **On-chain check** (`onchain_balance`, BTC): Balance of the company's disclosed addresses at the same block, where it discloses any; empty when it publishes none.
- **Source** (`source`): The filing or press release behind the holdings figure, with its date.

## How it will be measured

- Holdings are the bitcoin amount in each company's latest filing or press release, recorded with the document, its date and the date the holding was measured.
- Where a company discloses its addresses, their balance is read from the UTXO set at the day's last block and shown beside the reported amount; any gap is shown, not resolved.
- Share of supply divides reported holdings by circulating supply from gettxoutsetinfo at the same day's last block.
- mNAV divides the company's market value, from exchange data recorded with its source, by its bitcoin valued at the oracle BTC/USD price; it is an off-chain figure and labelled as one.

## Data it needs

- `treasury_holdings` (to build): Crypto held by public companies, treasury companies and governments, from filings, with on-chain addresses where disclosed.
- `bitcoin_supply_daily` (to build): Bitcoin issued, supply by coin age band and by output script type (including coins whose public keys are already exposed), supply last moved long ago, and cost-basis measures.
- `native_prices_daily` (to build): Reference prices of major assets read from on-chain oracle feeds (Chainlink latestRoundData) at each day's last block, with each round's update time.
- `address_labels` (to build): Labels for known addresses: exchanges, bridges, protocols, funds, treasuries, sanctioned addresses and known attackers.
- Source: Company filings and press releases stating bitcoin holdings and purchase dates, recorded with source and date
- Source: Market capitalization and shares outstanding from exchange data, recorded with their source (off-chain)
- Source: Balances of company-disclosed addresses at the day's last block
- Source: gettxoutsetinfo total_amount at the same block, for share of supply
- Source: Chainlink BTC/USD on Ethereum at the day's last block, for the value of holdings

## Questions

### Which companies own the most bitcoin?

The table ranks every listed company by the holdings in its latest filing. The order moves as companies buy, sell and report, so each row shows the date its holding was measured, and the ranking reflects the filings available on the table's date.

### What is a bitcoin treasury company?

A listed company whose main strategy is to hold bitcoin, often raising money through new shares or convertible debt to buy more. Other companies hold bitcoin as a smaller reserve beside an operating business such as mining or payments, and the table tags each kind.

### What is mNAV for a bitcoin treasury company?

Multiple of net asset value: a company's market value divided by the value of the bitcoin it holds. Above one, investors pay more for the shares than the coins behind them; below one, the shares trade for less than the coins. Some use enterprise value instead, and the table names its choice.

### How do we know how much bitcoin a company holds?

Mostly from the company itself: quarterly and annual reports, current reports and press releases. Few companies publish their addresses, so most holdings cannot be checked on-chain, and the table shows for each row whether its figure is reported only or also read from disclosed addresses.

### Do bitcoin miners count as companies holding bitcoin?

Yes, when they report keeping mined coins rather than selling them. Listed miners appear with their reported holdings and are tagged as miners, since their holdings change with production and sales as well as purchases.

## Glossary

- **mNAV**: A company's market value divided by the value of the bitcoin it holds: the premium or discount investors place on the shares relative to the coins.
- **Filing**: A report a listed company submits to its securities regulator, such as a quarterly or annual report, stating its holdings as of a date.
- **Custodian**: A firm that holds coins for a client. A company that holds through a custodian usually publishes no addresses, so its holdings are known from its filings.
