Railgun is a privacy system that runs as smart contracts on Ethereum, Arbitrum, Polygon and BNB Chain. Users shield tokens into its contracts, transact privately inside them and unshield back to an ordinary address. The edges of that flow are public, so this dashboard measures value shielded, value unshielded and the balance held shielded, chain by chain and month by month. What happens inside the pool stays private by design: private transactions carry encrypted amounts and recipients, so only their number is counted. Shield and unshield amounts, token balances and the protocol's fees are read from events and balances at pinned blocks, and every figure links to the reads behind it. ## Blueprint ### Overview Value shielded and unshielded, private transactions and the shielded balance. - **Shielded balance** (USD): Value held in Railgun's contracts across covered chains at the latest daily block. - **Shielded, 30 days** (USD): Value shielded into Railgun over the last thirty days. - **Unshielded, 30 days** (USD): Value unshielded out of Railgun over the last thirty days. - **Private transactions, 30 days** (count): Private transactions in the last thirty days, counted from Transact events. - **Shielded and unshielded by month** (USD): Value shielded and unshielded in each month, split by chain. - **Shielded balance by day** (USD): The shielded balance by day over the period, stacked by chain. ### By chain and token Each chain's flows, balance and fees, with the tokens held shielded. - **Fees, 30 days** (USD): Shield and unshield fees sent to the Railgun treasury over the last thirty days. - **Tokens held shielded** (count): Distinct tokens with a balance in Railgun's contracts at the latest daily block. - **Shielded balance by token** (USD): The shielded balance split by token at the latest daily block. - **Chains compared**: Each chain with its shielded balance, value shielded and unshielded, private transactions and fees over the period. Filters: Chain (Ethereum, Arbitrum, Polygon, BNB Chain or all); Period (Last 30 or 90 days, or the last 12 months). ## How it will be measured - Value shielded and unshielded comes from the Railgun smart wallet's Shield and Unshield events per token on each chain, valued at oracle prices, or stablecoin pool prices, on the day of the event. - The shielded balance is ERC-20 balanceOf of the Railgun contract for each token at the first block after 00:00 UTC, valued the same way: it is the total held, not any user's balance. - Private transactions are counted from Transact events; their amounts, tokens and recipients are encrypted, so no value is attached to them. - Fees are the shield and unshield fee transfers to the Railgun treasury, read from the same events. ## Data it needs - `privacy_pools_daily` (to build): Deposits into and withdrawals from privacy pools and shielded pools per protocol and day, and shielded supply where measurable. - `protocol_revenue_daily` (to build): Fees users paid to each protocol and the part kept by the protocol or its token holders, per protocol and day, including buybacks. - `native_prices_daily` (to build): Reference prices of major assets read from on-chain oracle feeds (Chainlink latestRoundData) at each day's last block, with each round's update time. - Source: Railgun smart wallet Shield and Unshield events per token - Source: Railgun Transact events as a count of private transactions - Source: ERC-20 balanceOf of the Railgun contract per token at daily blocks for shielded value - Source: Shield and unshield fee transfers to the treasury - Source: USD value from oracle feeds, stablecoin legs or DEX prices at the event block ## Questions ### What is Railgun? A privacy protocol built as smart contracts on existing chains. Tokens shielded into Railgun can be sent, swapped or used in DeFi without revealing balances or counterparties on-chain, then unshielded to a public address. ### How is Railgun volume measured? From its public edges: the value shielded into its contracts and the value unshielded out, read from Shield and Unshield events. Transactions inside the shielded pool are encrypted, so they are counted but not valued. ### What is Railgun TVL? The value of all tokens held by Railgun's contracts, the shielded balance. It is read from the contracts' token balances at a pinned block and says nothing about who owns which part. ### What is Kohaku and how does it relate to Railgun? Kohaku is an Ethereum Foundation initiative that gives wallets a toolkit for privacy features, and Railgun is one of the protocols that toolkit integrates. Shielding through a Kohaku-based wallet appears here as ordinary Railgun Shield events. ### Does Railgun charge fees? Yes. Shielding and unshielding each pay a small protocol fee that goes to the Railgun DAO treasury, and private transactions sent through a relayer also pay that relayer for gas.
