**Question:** How much ETH left restaking in 2026, and where did it go?

- Kind: Report in Voltfin Folio
- Topic: [Staking and restaking](https://voltfincrypto.com/topics/staking)
- Chains: Ethereum
- Status: Planned. The data is not published yet, so this page states no figure; each figure will open its receipt when it is.

This report follows the ETH and liquid staking tokens that left restaking in 2026 and traces where they went. It reads EigenLayer's withdrawals month by month, follows the addresses that completed them to their next stop and sets the result beside the deposits that moved to Symbiotic and other restaking protocols.

The year changed restaking's shape. ether.fi removed restaking from weETH in August and moved it into a separate opt-in token built on Symbiotic. The bridge that carried Kelp's rsETH to other chains was exploited in April and refilled in May. Slashing, live on both main protocols since 2025, gave services real penalties to apply. Each of these shows up on-chain and is cited to its transactions.

It is written for restakers, holders of liquid restaking tokens, risk teams and researchers who want the year in one place with receipts. Every figure is pinned to a block before the edition's date.

## Blueprint

### The year in one paragraph

How much was restaked at the start of 2026 and at the latest month end, how much left EigenLayer, where it went and the events that moved it.

Cites: Restaked at the start of 2026; Restaked at the latest month end; Net withdrawn from EigenLayer in 2026.

### EigenLayer month by month

Deposits, queued and completed withdrawals and natively restaked ETH in EigenPods each month, by asset.

Cites: Deposits by month; Completed withdrawals by month; Natively restaked ETH at each month end.

### The liquid restaking tokens

What happened to weETH, rsETH, ezETH and the other liquid restaking tokens: ether.fi moving restaking out of weETH, the April exploit of Kelp's rsETH bridge with its refill in May and each token's supply month by month.

Cites: Supply of each token at month end; Share of each issuer's backing still restaked.

### Where the withdrawn ETH went

What the addresses that completed EigenLayer withdrawals did next: staked again through liquid staking, moved to Symbiotic, exited the beacon chain, supplied to lending markets or sent to exchanges.

Cites: Withdrawn ETH by next destination.

### Symbiotic and the other protocols

Collateral deposited in Symbiotic vaults and other restaking protocols over the year, including weETHs, by asset.

Cites: Symbiotic collateral at each month end; weETHs supply.

### Slashing and rewards

Every slashing executed in 2026 and the rewards services paid restakers, set against the stake they could slash.

Cites: Slashing events and amounts; Rewards submitted in 2026; Slashable stake at the latest month end.

## How it will be measured

- Deposits and withdrawals come from EigenLayer's strategy manager deposit events and the delegation manager's withdrawal queued and completed events, valued in ETH at each token's exchange rate.
- Destinations follow each completed withdrawal's recipient to its next transfer of the withdrawn asset, classified by labelled addresses: liquid staking deposits, restaking vaults, the beacon chain exit queue, lending markets and exchanges.
- Liquid restaking token supply is each token's totalSupply at month-end blocks; the restaked share is the part of each issuer's backing still delegated in a restaking protocol.
- Slashing counts only executed slashes, and rewards are the amounts services submitted on-chain, valued on the day of submission.

## Data it needs

- `restaking_daily` (to build): Assets restaked per restaking protocol, strategy and operator per day, and what is delegated to each service.
- `lst_rates_daily` (to build): Exchange rates of liquid staking and restaking tokens (wstETH, rETH, cbETH, weETH and others) at day end, and the realized yield they imply.
- `token_supply_daily` (to build): Total supply of each registry token on each chain at day end: wrapped BTC, liquid staking tokens, tokenized assets and other tracked tokens.
- `address_labels` (to build): Labels for known addresses: exchanges, bridges, protocols, funds, treasuries, sanctioned addresses and known attackers.
- `eth_staking_daily` (to build): Active validators, ETH staked, deposits, withdrawals and the entry and exit queues on the Ethereum beacon chain, by day, with staking-provider labels where known.
- `lending_markets_daily` (to build): Supply, borrow, utilization and rates per lending market (Aave, Morpho, Spark, Compound, Euler and others) at day end.

## Questions

### Why did ETH leave restaking in 2026?

The chain shows when and how much, not why. The report records the reasons issuers published, such as ether.fi's decision to take restaking out of weETH, and sets each stated reason beside the withdrawals that followed.

### What happened to weETH's restaking?

In August 2026 ether.fi removed restaking from weETH, which now earns plain staking rewards, and moved restaking into weETHs, an opt-in token built on Symbiotic. The report follows the ETH that ether.fi undelegated from EigenLayer and what became of it.

### How did the Kelp exploit affect restaking?

The April 2026 attack released rsETH escrowed for other chains rather than draining Kelp's restaked deposits on Ethereum, but it set off withdrawals from lending markets that held rsETH. The report shows rsETH's supply, its backing and the refill of the escrow in May.

### Has anyone been slashed in restaking?

The report lists every slashing executed on EigenLayer and Symbiotic during the year with its transaction. Requested slashes that were vetoed or never executed are noted separately, because they took no stake.

### Does restaking still pay a yield?

The report adds up the rewards services submitted on-chain in 2026 and compares them with the stake they could slash, without counting points or expected airdrops. Whether that is worth the slashing risk is left to the reader.

## Glossary

- **Restaking**: Using staked ETH or liquid staking tokens to secure other services as well, for extra rewards and extra slashing risk.
- **Liquid restaking token**: A token issued against restaked assets, such as rsETH or ezETH, whose rate tracks the assets behind it.
- **Withdrawal delay**: The wait a queued EigenLayer withdrawal must serve before it can be completed, during which the stake can still be slashed.
- **Slashing**: Taking part of an operator's stake, and its delegators', as a penalty for breaking a service's rules.
