**Question:** How much ETH runs through Rocket Pool, and how much of it do node operators bond themselves?

- Kind: Dashboard in Voltfin Vantage
- Topic: [Staking and restaking](https://voltfincrypto.com/topics/staking)
- Chains: Ethereum
- Status: Planned. The data is not published yet, so this page states no figure; each figure will open its receipt when it is.

Rocket Pool runs Ethereum validators with two kinds of ETH: a bond from each node operator and the rest from people who deposit ETH for rETH. This dashboard reads Rocket Pool's contracts to show how much ETH that is, how rETH's exchange rate grows, how full the deposit pool is and how much of the stake node operators put up themselves.

The bond is what sets Rocket Pool apart. Operators first ran minipools, each one validator with its own bond, and since the Saturn upgrade they can also run many validators in one megapool with a smaller bond each. The dashboard counts validators by bond type so the shift between the two shows over time, and it splits each rewards interval between rETH holders, node operators and RPL stakers.

Use it to check whether rETH trades at a premium or a discount, how widely the node set is spread and where rewards go. Every figure names its block and the contract call behind it.

## Blueprint

### rETH

Supply, exchange rate, the deposit pool and how rETH trades against its rate.

- **rETH supply** (rETH): rETH totalSupply() on Ethereum at the day's last block.
- **ETH per rETH** (ETH): rETH's exchange rate from getExchangeRate(), as set by the oracle DAO's latest balance submission.
- **ETH in the deposit pool** (ETH): ETH waiting in the deposit pool at the latest block; when the pool reaches its capacity, new rETH can only be bought from other holders.
- **Market premium** (%): rETH's price in its deepest DEX pool against the protocol rate at the same block: above zero is a premium, below zero a discount.
- **Protocol rate and market price** (ETH): The protocol exchange rate by day beside rETH's DEX price in ETH, so premiums and discounts show when they open.
- **Where rewards go** (ETH): Each rewards interval's ETH split between rETH holders, RPL stakers and node operators, whose share covers their bonds and commission.

### Node operators

Nodes, validators by bond type and the ETH operators put up themselves.

- **Node operators** (count): Registered nodes with at least one active minipool or megapool validator at the latest block.
- **Operators' bond share** (%): Node operators' own bonded ETH as a share of all ETH in Rocket Pool validators; the rest comes from rETH depositors.
- **Validators by bond type** (count): Active validators by day, split into the original minipools, the smaller-bond LEB8 minipools and megapool validators added since the Saturn upgrade.
- **Nodes by validators**: Each node with its active validators by type, its bonded ETH, its commission and whether it is in the smoothing pool.

Filters: Period (Last 30, 90 or 365 days).

## How it will be measured

- rETH supply is totalSupply() and its rate getExchangeRate() on the rETH contract at each day's last block; the rate moves only when the oracle DAO submits network balances, and each submission is marked.
- Validators and bonds are read from the minipool manager and the megapool contracts, counting each validator once by its bond type and status.
- The market premium compares rETH's price in its deepest DEX pools with the protocol rate at the same block.
- Each rewards interval's on-chain submission gives what node operators, the smoothing pool and RPL stakers were allocated; rETH holders' share is the growth of the exchange rate.

## Data it needs

- `lst_rates_daily` (to build): Exchange rates of liquid staking and restaking tokens (wstETH, rETH, cbETH, weETH and others) at day end, and the realized yield they imply.
- `token_supply_daily` (to build): Total supply of each registry token on each chain at day end: wrapped BTC, liquid staking tokens, tokenized assets and other tracked tokens.
- `eth_staking_daily` (to build): Active validators, ETH staked, deposits, withdrawals and the entry and exit queues on the Ethereum beacon chain, by day, with staking-provider labels where known.
- `dex_liquidity_daily` (to build): Liquidity held by each DEX pool at day end, in tokens and valued in USD, with fee tier and pool age.
- `protocol_revenue_daily` (to build): Fees users paid to each protocol and the part kept by the protocol or its token holders, per protocol and day, including buybacks.

## Questions

### What is rETH?

rETH is Rocket Pool's liquid staking token. Its balance stays fixed while its exchange rate rises, so each rETH is worth more ETH as the validators it funds earn rewards. The oracle DAO updates the rate on-chain at regular balance submissions.

### What is a Rocket Pool minipool?

A contract that runs one validator. The node operator bonds part of the ETH and the rest comes from rETH depositors; the operator earns rewards on its own bond plus a commission on the rewards of the ETH it borrowed.

### What are Rocket Pool megapools?

Megapools came with the Saturn upgrade: one contract per node that can run many validators, each with a smaller bond than a minipool needs. Existing minipools keep running, and the dashboard counts validators of each kind so the mix is visible.

### Why does rETH sometimes trade above its exchange rate?

New rETH can only be minted while the deposit pool has room. When it is full, buyers have to get rETH from other holders on DEXs and may pay a premium; when there is spare ETH, rETH can be burned for ETH directly and the gap closes.

### What is the smoothing pool?

An opt-in contract that collects the priority fees and MEV its members' validators earn and shares them across all members each rewards interval. A small operator then earns a steadier income than it would waiting for its own lucky blocks.

## Glossary

- **Minipool**: A Rocket Pool contract running a single validator, funded by a node operator's bond and by ETH from rETH depositors.
- **Megapool**: A Rocket Pool contract, added by the Saturn upgrade, that runs many validators for one node with a smaller bond for each.
- **Oracle DAO**: The group of nodes that report network balances, including the data behind rETH's exchange rate, to Rocket Pool's contracts.
- **Deposit pool**: Where ETH deposited for rETH waits until node operators take it to create validators; its capacity is set by Rocket Pool governance.
