**Question:** How busy is Scroll, what do its transactions cost and how long does Ethereum take to finalize them?

- Kind: Dashboard in Voltfin Vantage
- Topic: [Layer 2s](https://voltfincrypto.com/topics/layer-2)
- Chains: Scroll, Ethereum
- Status: Planned. The data is not published yet, so this page states no figure; each figure will open its receipt when it is.

Scroll is a zkEVM rollup on Ethereum: it runs Ethereum bytecode, posts its transaction data to Ethereum in blobs and proves its batches with validity proofs. This dashboard follows its daily transactions, active addresses and fees, along with the Ethereum transactions that commit and finalize its batches.

Its distinctive measure is finality. A Scroll transaction is ordered by the sequencer within seconds, committed to Ethereum when its batch is posted and final once the proof for that batch is verified there. The dashboard times each stage from the chain, so the wait for a proven batch is a measured figure rather than a promise.

Since the Euclid upgrade of April 2025, Scroll's proofs come from a prover built on OpenVM, and its Feynman upgrade in August 2025 redesigned how fees are set. The charts mark each upgrade, since each one can change fees and proving times.

## Blueprint

### Activity and fees

Transactions, active addresses and fees on Scroll.

- **Transactions, latest day** (count): Transactions sent on Scroll on the latest complete UTC day, with messages included from Ethereum's queue counted apart.
- **Active addresses, latest day** (count): Distinct addresses that sent at least one transaction on Scroll on the latest complete UTC day.
- **Median transaction fee** (USD): The median fee paid per transaction on Scroll on the latest complete day, execution and L1 data fee together.
- **L1 data share of fees** (%): The share of fees paid on the latest complete day that went to the L1 data fee.
- **Transactions and active addresses by day** (count): Daily transactions and daily active addresses on Scroll over the selected period.
- **Fees by day: execution and L1 data** (ETH): Daily fees on Scroll split into the execution fee and the L1 data fee, from receipts.

### Batches and finality

How long Scroll's batches take to be committed and proven on Ethereum.

- **Time to finality, median** (hours): The median time from a Scroll block's timestamp to the Ethereum block that finalized its batch with a verified proof, over the selected period.
- **Batches finalized, latest day** (count): Batches whose proofs Ethereum verified on the latest complete UTC day.
- **Time to commit and to finalize** (hours): Daily median time from a Scroll block to its batch's commitment and to its finalization on Ethereum.
- **Enforced transactions**: Transactions submitted through the EnforcedTxGateway on Ethereum, with the delay until Scroll included each one.

Filters: Period (Last week, month, quarter or year).

## How it will be measured

- Transactions and active addresses are counted per UTC day from Scroll blocks; messages the sequencer includes from Ethereum's queue are counted apart from transactions sent on Scroll.
- Fees are the execution fee from gas used and effective gas price plus the L1 data fee in each receipt, which the L1GasPriceOracle predeploy sets from Ethereum's base fee and blob base fee.
- Finality is timed from the ScrollChain contract on Ethereum: the block that committed each batch and the block that finalized it with a verified proof, against the timestamps of the Scroll blocks inside it.
- Enforced transactions are those submitted through the EnforcedTxGateway on Ethereum, counted from their events with the delay before Scroll included each one.
- Every figure names its Scroll or Ethereum block and the read behind it.

## Data it needs

- `chain_activity_daily` (to build): Transactions, active sending addresses, new addresses, contracts created and gas used on each chain per day, counted from blocks and transactions.
- `gas_blocks` (to build): Base fee, priority fee percentiles, gas used and gas limit for each block on fee-market chains, for a near-live gas tracker.
- `l2_activity_daily` (to build): Per layer 2 per day: transactions, active addresses, fees users paid on the L2, and what the L2 paid Ethereum to settle and post data.
- `blob_usage_daily` (to build): EIP-4844 blobs posted per day, blob gas used, blob base fee, and the rollup that posted them.
- `native_prices_daily` (to build): Reference prices of major assets read from on-chain oracle feeds (Chainlink latestRoundData) at each day's last block, with each round's update time.

## Questions

### How long does Scroll take to finalize a transaction?

A transaction is settled on Scroll within seconds and final on Ethereum once the proof for its batch is verified there. The dashboard shows the median and the slowest time from a block's timestamp to that finalization over the selected period.

### What is the L1 data fee on Scroll?

It is what a transaction pays toward posting its data to Ethereum. The L1GasPriceOracle predeploy sets it from Ethereum's base fee, its blob base fee and the transaction's size. The receipt shows it beside the execution fee.

### Can users force a transaction onto Scroll?

Yes. A transaction sent through the EnforcedTxGateway on Ethereum joins the queue of messages Scroll's sequencer must include, and Scroll's contracts provide a fallback if that queue stops being processed. The dashboard counts these transactions and how long each took to be included.

### What changed with the Euclid upgrade?

Euclid, in April 2025, moved Scroll's proving to a prover built on OpenVM, switched its state to the Merkle Patricia trie that Ethereum uses and added support for EIP-7702. The Feynman upgrade in August 2025 followed with a redesign of the fee parameters.

### Who controls Scroll's contracts?

Scroll's sequencer is run by Scroll, and control of its contracts has changed with its governance over time. The rollup decentralization table reads who can upgrade them today directly from the contracts, with the threshold and delay that apply.

## Glossary

- **Batch**: A group of Scroll blocks whose data is committed to Ethereum in one transaction and proven together.
- **Finalized batch**: A batch whose validity proof Ethereum has verified; its state can no longer be reverted.
- **Enforced transaction**: A transaction submitted through Scroll's contracts on Ethereum rather than to its sequencer, which the rollup must include.
- **OpenVM**: The zkVM framework that Scroll's prover has been built on since the Euclid upgrade.
