**Question:** How busy is Starknet, what do its STRK fees pay for and how much STRK and BTC is staked with its validators?

- Kind: Dashboard in Voltfin Vantage
- Topic: [Layer 2s](https://voltfincrypto.com/topics/layer-2)
- Chains: Starknet, Ethereum
- Status: Planned. The data is not published yet, so this page states no figure; each figure will open its receipt when it is.

Starknet is a validity rollup on Ethereum that runs Cairo, StarkWare's language for provable programs, rather than the EVM. Every account is a contract, fees are paid in STRK and blocks are proven with STARK proofs before their state is accepted on Ethereum. This dashboard follows its daily transactions, active accounts and fees, read from Starknet's blocks.

Starknet prices three resources apart: L2 gas for computation and data on Starknet, L1 data gas for the state differences it posts to Ethereum in blobs and L1 gas for messages to Ethereum. Since version 0.14.0 in September 2025, the L2 gas price follows an EIP-1559 rule, blocks arrive about every six seconds and three sequencers take turns building them. The dashboard splits fees by resource and marks each version.

STRK and approved BTC wrappers can be staked with validators that attest to blocks, and rewards are minted in STRK. A staking page reads stake, validators and rewards from the staking contracts.

## Blueprint

### Activity and fees

Transactions, active accounts and STRK fees on Starknet, split by resource.

- **Transactions, latest day** (count): Transactions in Starknet blocks on the latest complete UTC day, with L1 handler transactions counted apart.
- **Active accounts, latest day** (count): Distinct accounts that sent at least one transaction on Starknet on the latest complete UTC day.
- **Fees paid, latest day** (STRK): STRK paid in fees on Starknet on the latest complete day, from the fee transfers to the sequencer.
- **L2 gas price now** (fri): The L2 gas price of the latest Starknet block, set by its EIP-1559 rule above a minimum.
- **Fees by resource by day** (STRK): Daily STRK fees split into L2 gas, L1 data gas and L1 gas, from each block's prices and each receipt's resources.
- **Transactions and active accounts by day** (count): Daily transactions and daily active accounts on Starknet over the selected period.

### Staking

STRK and BTC staked with Starknet validators, validator by validator.

- **STRK staked** (STRK): STRK staked with validators, directly and through delegation pools, at the latest day-end block.
- **BTC staked** (BTC): BTC wrappers delegated to Starknet validators at the latest day-end block, added up in BTC.
- **STRK and BTC stake over time**: STRK staked and BTC staked at each day-end block over the selected period, each on its own axis.
- **Validators**: Each validator with its own stake, delegated STRK and BTC, commission and the share of epochs it attested in.

Filters: Period (Last week, month, quarter or year).

## How it will be measured

- Transactions and active accounts are counted per UTC day from Starknet blocks; an account is active on a day when it sends at least one transaction, and L1 handler transactions from Ethereum are counted apart.
- Fees are the STRK transfers to the sequencer that the Starknet OS adds to each transaction, split by resource using each block's L2 gas, L1 gas and L1 data gas prices and the resources each receipt reports.
- Starknet does not burn fees: they are all received by the sequencer, so the dashboard reports them as fees paid, never as burn.
- Stake is read from the staking contract at day-end blocks, STRK and each BTC wrapper apart, with validators, delegation pools and the rewards minted each epoch.
- Ethereum costs are the gas and blob fees of Starknet's state update transactions, found through the Starknet core contract's LogStateUpdate events and their receipts.

## Data it needs

- `chain_activity_daily` (to build): Transactions, active sending addresses, new addresses, contracts created and gas used on each chain per day, counted from blocks and transactions.
- `chain_fees_daily` (to build): Fees paid per chain per day in the native token: base fee and priority fee percentiles, total fees, and the share burned where the chain burns fees.
- `l2_activity_daily` (to build): Per layer 2 per day: transactions, active addresses, fees users paid on the L2, and what the L2 paid Ethereum to settle and post data.
- `blob_usage_daily` (to build): EIP-4844 blobs posted per day, blob gas used, blob base fee, and the rollup that posted them.
- `staking_networks_daily` (to build): Staked supply, staking ratio, validators and nominal rewards per proof-of-stake network per day.
- `native_prices_daily` (to build): Reference prices of major assets read from on-chain oracle feeds (Chainlink latestRoundData) at each day's last block, with each round's update time.

## Questions

### What token pays fees on Starknet?

STRK. Since version 0.14.0, every transaction must set STRK-denominated limits for each fee resource, and older transaction versions that could pay in ETH are no longer accepted. The fee is charged as a STRK transfer from the sender to the sequencer.

### Does Starknet burn fees?

Not at present. Starknet's documentation says fees are not burned and that all of them are received by the sequencer. The dashboard shows fees paid by resource and by day.

### How does STRK staking work?

Validators stake STRK, and others can delegate STRK or approved BTC wrappers to them. A validator must attest to its assigned block in each epoch to earn rewards, which are minted in STRK on a curve that depends on how much is staked. Unstaking has a lockup before funds can be withdrawn.

### Can BTC be staked on Starknet?

Yes. Since 2025, a curated set of tokenized BTC wrappers can be delegated to Starknet validators to earn STRK rewards, with BTC counting for part of a validator's staking power. The dashboard reads BTC stake by wrapper from the staking contract.

### What is Cairo?

Cairo is the language Starknet contracts are written in. Its programs compile to a form whose execution can be proven with STARK proofs, which is what lets Ethereum verify Starknet's blocks without running them again.

## Glossary

- **STARK proof**: A cryptographic proof that a computation ran correctly, which Ethereum can verify far faster than re-running the computation.
- **L1 data gas**: The fee resource that pays for posting Starknet's state differences to Ethereum, priced from Ethereum's blob fees.
- **Attestation**: A validator's transaction confirming the hash of its assigned block, required each epoch to earn staking rewards.
- **Fri**: The smallest unit of STRK, in which Starknet gas prices are quoted.
