**Question:** How much payment volume and tokenized asset supply is on Stellar?

- Kind: Dashboard in Voltfin Vantage
- Topic: [Layer 1 chains](https://voltfincrypto.com/topics/chains)
- Chains: Stellar
- Status: Planned. The data is not published yet, so this page states no figure; each figure will open its receipt when it is.

Stellar is a payments network: accounts hold XLM and assets issued by anchors and asset managers, and each transaction bundles operations such as payments, currency conversions and offers on the ledger's built-in exchange. This dashboard reads every closed ledger to show what the network carries each day, from payments and path payments to new accounts and trustlines, along with the issued assets on it and the Soroban contracts called.

Assets on Stellar are identified by a code and an issuer account, so two assets called USDC are kept apart unless they share an issuer. Supply comes from balances on the ledger, while tokenized fund shares are valued with the net asset value their issuer publishes, named as an off-chain source. Every figure is pinned to the ledger it was read at, with a receipt.

## Blueprint

### Payments

Operations, payments, USD stablecoin volume and new accounts.

- **Operations, latest day** (count): Successful operations in ledgers closed on the latest complete UTC day.
- **Payments, latest day** (count): Payment and path payment operations on the latest complete day.
- **USD stablecoin payments** (USD): The amount delivered by payments in USD stablecoins on the latest complete day, each stablecoin identified by code and issuer.
- **New accounts, latest day** (count): Accounts created by create account operations on the latest complete day.
- **Operations by type** (count): Operations by type each day over the selected period: payments, path payments, offers, liquidity pool deposits and withdrawals, trustlines, contract calls and others.

### Assets and contracts

Issued asset supply, trustlines, Soroban calls and fees.

- **USDC on Stellar** (USDC): USDC issued on Stellar by its issuer account, from balances, claimable balances and pool reserves at the day's last ledger.
- **New trustlines, latest day** (count): Trustlines added for issued assets on the latest complete day.
- **Soroban contract calls** (count): Soroban contract invocations on the latest complete day, successful ones only.
- **Fees charged, latest day** (XLM): Fees charged on the latest complete day, inclusion and Soroban resource fees together, which go to the network's fee pool.
- **Issued assets**: Each issued asset with holders: code, issuer account, supply, holders, payment volume over 30 days and the issuer's control flags.

Filters: Period (Last 30 days, 90 days or a year).

## How it will be measured

- Operations are counted per UTC day by type from every closed ledger, successful ones only; a transaction can carry many operations, so operations rather than transactions measure what the network did.
- Payment volume adds the amounts delivered by payment and path payment operations per asset, identified by code and issuer account and never by code alone; USD stablecoins are valued at their peg.
- Asset supply and holders come from trustlines, claimable balances and liquidity pool reserves at the day's last ledger; tokenized funds are valued with the net asset value their issuer publishes off-chain, named with its date.
- Fees are the fee charged on each transaction, which goes to the network's fee pool rather than to validators, and every figure carries a receipt with the ledger sequence and hash.

## Data it needs

- `chain_activity_daily` (to build): Transactions, active sending addresses, new addresses, contracts created and gas used on each chain per day, counted from blocks and transactions.
- `chain_fees_daily` (to build): Fees paid per chain per day in the native token: base fee and priority fee percentiles, total fees, and the share burned where the chain burns fees.
- `payments_volume_daily` (to build): Stablecoin payment flows that look like payments rather than trading: merchant and payroll transfers, card settlements and remittance corridors, per chain and day.
- `rwa_supply_daily` (to build): Supply and holders of tokenized treasuries, money-market funds, stocks, gold and credit per token and chain per day, with issuer and asset class.
- Source: Closed ledgers and their transactions: operations by type, results and fee charged
- Source: Payment and path payment operations with the amounts delivered, per asset code and issuer
- Source: Trustline balances, claimable balances and liquidity pool reserves per issued asset, for supply and holders
- Source: Soroban invoke host function operations and contract events, including the asset events classic operations emit since Protocol 23
- Source: Issuer-published net asset value per share for tokenized funds, recorded with its source and date (off-chain)

## Questions

### Who earns Stellar transaction fees?

No one. Stellar fees are collected into a fee pool that has never been paid out since the network disabled inflation in 2019, so fees act as a charge against spam rather than as income for validators. Validators run nodes for their own reasons, such as the services they offer on the network.

### What is a trustline?

Before an account can hold an issued asset such as USDC on Stellar, it must add a trustline for that asset and issuer. Trustlines record balances and limits, and issuers of regulated assets can require approval for them, freeze them or claw funds back. The assets table shows which controls each issuer has set.

### What are path payments?

Payments that convert on the way: the sender pays in one asset and the receiver gets another, routed through the network's built-in order books and liquidity pools in a single operation. They are how cross-currency transfers settle on Stellar, and they are counted apart from plain payments.

### What is Soroban?

Stellar's smart-contract platform, live since Protocol 20 in 2024. Contracts are written in Rust and compiled to WebAssembly. They pay resource fees for the computation and storage they use and pay rent to keep their data live. Protocol 23, in 2025, let validators execute contract transactions in parallel.

### Which tokenized assets are on Stellar?

Stablecoins such as USDC and EURC, and tokenized funds, including money-market fund shares issued by asset managers. The assets table lists every issued asset that has holders, with its issuer account, supply and controls; fund shares are valued only where a net asset value is published.

## Glossary

- **Operation**: A single action inside a Stellar transaction, such as a payment, an offer or a contract call; a transaction can hold many.
- **Trustline**: The record that lets an account hold an issued asset, with its balance, limit and the issuer's authorization.
- **Path payment**: A payment that converts between assets through the ledger's order books and liquidity pools in one operation.
- **Stroop**: The smallest unit of XLM, one ten-millionth of a lumen, in which fees are recorded.
- **SCP**: The Stellar Consensus Protocol, a federated agreement in which each validator chooses the validators it trusts.
