**Question:** How many TON wallets are actually active each month?

- Kind: Dashboard in Voltfin Vantage
- Topic: [Layer 1 chains](https://voltfincrypto.com/topics/chains)
- Chains: TON
- Status: Planned. The data is not published yet, so this page states no figure; each figure will open its receipt when it is.

A TON wallet is a smart contract. It is deployed with its owner's first outgoing transaction, and every later transaction the owner starts arrives as an external message the wallet checks and acts on. That makes two figures readable from the chain: how many wallets were ever activated, and how many started something in a given day or month. This dashboard shows both and the gap between them.

Read the counts with Telegram in mind. Many Telegram users hold TON through custodial services whose balances sit in shared addresses, so they never appear as wallets of their own, while one person can run several wallets. Each figure is pinned to the masterchain block it was read at and carries a receipt for the reads behind it.

## Blueprint

### Wallets

Active wallets against activated wallets, by day and month.

- **Monthly active wallets** (count): Distinct wallet contracts that started at least one transaction in the last 30 days.
- **Daily active wallets** (count): Distinct wallet contracts that started at least one transaction on the latest complete UTC day.
- **Activated wallets** (count): Wallet contracts deployed on the basechain since launch, each counted once at its first deployment.
- **Active share of activated** (%): Monthly active wallets as a share of all activated wallets at the same block.
- **Active wallets over time** (count): Daily and 30-day active wallets over the selected period, which shows how lasting each wave of new users is.

### Activity

New wallets, USDT transfers and mini-app use on TON.

- **USDT transfers, latest day** (count): Transfers of the USDT jetton on TON on the latest complete day.
- **Transactions, latest day** (count): Basechain transactions on the latest complete day; masterchain transactions are counted apart.
- **New wallets by day** (count): Wallet contracts deployed each day, split by wallet version, as a measure of onboarding.
- **Mini-app and service activity** (count): Daily transactions to contracts labelled as Telegram mini-apps, wallets and services; a lower bound wherever labels are missing.

Filters: Period (Last 30 days, 90 days or a year); Wallet version (All wallets, v3, v4 or v5).

## How it will be measured

- Activated wallets are wallet contracts deployed on the basechain, identified by the code of the standard wallet versions v3, v4 and v5, counted at their first deployment.
- Active wallets are distinct wallet contracts that processed at least one external message from their owner in the UTC day and in the last 30 days, the step that starts every outgoing transaction.
- USDT activity counts transfers of the USDT jetton between jetton wallets per day, read from the transfer messages.
- Mini-app activity counts transactions to contracts labelled as Telegram mini-apps, wallets and services where a label exists; it is shown as a lower bound.
- Masterchain and basechain transactions are counted apart, and every figure carries a receipt with the masterchain block it was read at.

## Data it needs

- `chain_activity_daily` (to build): Transactions, active sending addresses, new addresses, contracts created and gas used on each chain per day, counted from blocks and transactions.
- `token_transfers_daily` (to build): ERC-20 and native transfer counts, volume and unique senders and receivers per token per chain per day.
- `address_labels` (to build): Labels for known addresses: exchanges, bridges, protocols, funds, treasuries, sanctioned addresses and known attackers.
- Source: Wallet contract deployments on the basechain, identified by the code hashes of wallet versions v3, v4 and v5
- Source: Owner-signed external messages processed by each wallet contract per day, for active wallets
- Source: USDT jetton transfer messages between jetton wallets
- Source: Masterchain and basechain transaction counts per block

## Questions

### How many TON wallets are active?

The dashboard counts wallets that started at least one transaction in the day and in the last 30 days. Active counts are usually much smaller than activated counts, because many wallets are created once and then left unused, so both are shown side by side.

### Why are Telegram users not the same as TON wallets?

Telegram offers custodial wallets in which the service holds funds in shared addresses, so their users have no wallet contract of their own. Self-custodial wallets do create wallet contracts. Users of mini-apps may never touch the chain at all.

### What does activating a TON wallet mean?

A TON address can receive funds before its wallet contract exists. The contract is deployed with the owner's first outgoing transaction, which carries its code and initial data, and only then can the wallet send.

### What are jettons?

TON's fungible token standard. Each holder gets a separate jetton wallet contract for each token, and a transfer is a message from one jetton wallet to another. USDT on TON works this way.

### What are the masterchain and the basechain?

TON's masterchain coordinates the network and holds its configuration and validators, while the basechain carries user wallets and most applications. Their activity is counted apart so network traffic does not inflate user figures.

## Glossary

- **External message**: A message from outside the chain, signed by a wallet's owner, that the wallet contract checks and acts on; it starts every outgoing transaction.
- **Wallet version**: The code a TON wallet contract runs, such as v3, v4 or v5, which sets its features.
- **Jetton wallet**: The contract that holds one owner's balance of one jetton, such as USDT.
- **State init**: The code and initial data sent with a wallet's first outgoing transaction to deploy its contract.
