**Question:** How is Tron used each day, and where does the energy behind it come from?

- Kind: Dashboard in Voltfin Vantage
- Topic: [Layer 1 chains](https://voltfincrypto.com/topics/chains)
- Chains: Tron
- Status: Planned. The data is not published yet, so this page states no figure; each figure will open its receipt when it is.

Tron is a layer 1 where token transfers, USDT above all, make up much of the activity. This dashboard reads every Tron block to show what that activity is made of: transactions by type, active and newly activated accounts and the share that moves USDT, together with the energy and bandwidth those transactions consume and where the resources come from.

On Tron, what a transaction costs depends on resources more than on a price. Accounts stake TRX for energy and bandwidth and lend them to others through Stake 2.0 delegation, or burn TRX when they have none. The resources page follows staked and delegated TRX and the free bandwidth every account receives. Each figure is pinned to the block it was read at, with a receipt.

## Blueprint

### Activity

Transactions by type, active and new accounts and the USDT share.

- **Transactions, latest day** (count): Transactions in Tron blocks on the latest complete UTC day, of every contract type.
- **Active accounts, latest day** (count): Distinct accounts that sent transactions on the latest complete day.
- **New accounts, latest day** (count): Accounts activated on the latest complete day, by a first TRX or TRC-10 transfer or an explicit creation.
- **USDT share of transactions** (%): Transactions that transferred USDT through the USDT contract, as a share of the latest day's transactions.
- **Transactions by type** (count): Daily transactions by type over the selected period: TRX transfers, USDT transfers, other contract calls, staking and delegation, votes and the rest.

### Energy and bandwidth

Energy used and the TRX staked and delegated for it, with the free bandwidth accounts receive.

- **Energy used, latest day** (energy): Energy consumed by smart-contract calls on the latest complete day, whether covered by staked, delegated or burned resources.
- **TRX staked for energy** (TRX): TRX staked for energy under Stake 2.0 at the latest day-end block.
- **TRX delegated as energy** (TRX): TRX whose energy is delegated to other accounts at the latest day-end block, the stock behind energy rental.
- **Free bandwidth share** (%): The share of bandwidth used on the latest complete day that accounts' free daily allowance covered.
- **Resource delegations by day** (TRX): TRX delegated and undelegated as energy and as bandwidth each day over the selected period.

Filters: Period (Last 30 days, 90 days or a year).

## How it will be measured

- Transactions are counted per UTC day by the contract type each Tron transaction declares; USDT transfers are TriggerSmartContract calls to the USDT contract's transfer and transferFrom functions.
- New accounts are addresses activated that day, by a first transfer of TRX or a TRC-10 token or by an AccountCreateContract, each of which charges the account creation fee.
- Energy and bandwidth used are summed from each transaction's receipt; free bandwidth is the part covered by each account's daily free allowance, read against the chain parameter that sets it.
- Staked and delegated TRX are read from account resources at the day's last block: TRX staked for energy and for bandwidth under Stake 2.0 and the part delegated to other accounts, and every figure carries a receipt with the block number and hash.

## Data it needs

- `chain_activity_daily` (to build): Transactions, active sending addresses, new addresses, contracts created and gas used on each chain per day, counted from blocks and transactions.
- `chain_fees_daily` (to build): Fees paid per chain per day in the native token: base fee and priority fee percentiles, total fees, and the share burned where the chain burns fees.
- `staking_networks_daily` (to build): Staked supply, staking ratio, validators and nominal rewards per proof-of-stake network per day.
- `token_transfers_daily` (to build): ERC-20 and native transfer counts, volume and unique senders and receivers per token per chain per day.
- Source: Tron transactions with their contract type: TransferContract, TriggerSmartContract, TransferAssetContract, FreezeBalanceV2Contract, DelegateResourceContract, UnDelegateResourceContract, VoteWitnessContract and others
- Source: TransactionInfo receipts: energy_usage, energy_fee, net_usage and net_fee per transaction
- Source: Account activations: AccountCreateContract and first TRX or TRC-10 transfers to new addresses
- Source: Account resources at day-end blocks: TRX staked for energy and bandwidth under Stake 2.0, and resources delegated to other accounts
- Source: Chain parameters: the total energy limit, the free bandwidth allowance and the account creation fee

## Questions

### What are energy and bandwidth on Tron?

Tron prices transactions in two resources: bandwidth for a transaction's size in bytes and energy for smart-contract execution. Accounts get them by staking TRX or through delegation from other accounts, or burn TRX to cover what they lack. A plain TRX transfer needs only bandwidth; a USDT transfer needs both.

### How is energy shared out?

The network sets a total energy limit, and each account that stakes TRX for energy receives a share in proportion to its stake against all TRX staked for energy. Used energy recovers gradually over a day. When more TRX is staked for energy, each staked TRX yields less of it.

### What is energy rental?

Under Stake 2.0, introduced in 2023, an account can delegate the energy from its staked TRX to another address, optionally locked for a period. Rental services use this to supply energy to senders for a payment, which lets a USDT transfer run without burning TRX. The delegation tiles follow how much TRX is delegated this way.

### How are Tron accounts activated?

An address becomes an account when it is activated: when it first receives TRX or a TRC-10 token, or when an existing account creates it. Activation costs a fee. The new accounts tile counts activations each day, which says more about onboarding than counting addresses that appear in transfers.

### Who produces Tron blocks?

Twenty-seven super representatives, elected by the votes of staked TRX, take turns producing blocks, with votes tallied at regular maintenance periods. Voting power comes from the same Stake 2.0 stake that yields energy and bandwidth, so staking choices shape both the resources and the producers.

## Glossary

- **Energy**: Tron's resource for smart-contract execution, received by staking TRX or by delegation, or paid for by burning TRX.
- **Bandwidth**: Tron's resource for a transaction's size in bytes; every account receives a small free allowance each day.
- **Stake 2.0**: Tron's staking system since 2023, in which staking TRX and delegating its resources are separate steps and delegations can be locked.
- **Account activation**: The step that creates an account at a Tron address, triggered by its first TRX or TRC-10 receipt or by an explicit creation.
