About

What it answers, and for whom.

In 2017 Ripple locked a large part of its XRP in a series of escrows on the XRP Ledger, set so that a fixed amount becomes releasable at the start of each month. Ripple finishes that month's escrow to take the XRP, and usually places what it does not need into a new escrow at the end of the schedule. This dashboard reads every escrow those accounts own and every escrow transaction, to show what is locked, what was released and what was locked again.

Use it to see the escrowed balance at any month end, how much of each monthly release stayed out of escrow and when the next escrows become releasable. Every figure comes from escrow ledger objects and transactions in validated ledgers, so it can be checked against the ledger itself.

Method

How it will be measured.

Every figure will be read at a block, kept with its source and its exact read, and open a receipt anyone can re-check.

How receipts work →
  1. Escrowed XRP is the sum of the Amount of every escrow object owned by Ripple's escrow accounts, from account_objects of type escrow at the last validated ledger of each day and month.
  2. Each monthly release is the EscrowFinish of the escrow whose FinishAfter time has passed; re-escrowed XRP is the EscrowCreate amounts the same accounts send in the same month.
  3. Kept XRP is the month's released amount minus the amount locked again, so the dashboard shows what left the escrow program for good.
  4. The schedule lists every remaining escrow with its FinishAfter date and amount, read from the same objects.
  5. Each figure carries a receipt: the validated ledger index and hash, and the transactions behind each release.

Questions

Questions people ask.

How much XRP is in escrow?

The dashboard sums every escrow owned by Ripple's escrow accounts at the latest validated ledger and at each month end. The total falls by what Ripple keeps from each monthly release and does not change for what it locks again.

How does the monthly escrow release work?

Each escrow has a FinishAfter time, after which it can be finished. Ripple's escrows were set so that one becomes finishable at the start of each month. Ripple then finishes it to receive the XRP and can lock any part of it again in a new escrow.

Does released XRP get sold?

Not necessarily. Released XRP moves to Ripple's own account, and much of it has usually been locked again. The dashboard follows the escrow transactions, not what Ripple later does with the XRP it keeps.

Can Ripple release more than the schedule allows?

No. An escrow cannot be finished before its FinishAfter time, and the ledger enforces that rule for every escrow. Ripple can only take XRP from escrows whose time has come.

Escrow
An XRP Ledger object that locks XRP until a set time or condition, after which it can be finished and paid out.
FinishAfter
The time after which an escrow can be finished and its XRP delivered.
EscrowFinish
The transaction that releases an escrow's XRP to its destination once its time has passed.
Re-escrow
Locking XRP again in a new escrow after it was released, which moves it to the end of the schedule.
