About

What it answers, and for whom.

Each edition of this report reviews one month of NFT trading: sales value and count, buyers and sellers, how the chains and marketplaces split the activity and which collections led. It is dated and pinned, so its figures can be compared month to month and re-checked against the trades they came from.

Wash trades are removed before anything is added up, and each figure cites the marketplace fills it was summed from, valued at the block of each sale. The report describes what changed and where; it makes no forecasts.

Method

How it will be measured.

Every figure will be read at a block, kept with its source and its exact read, and open a receipt anyone can re-check.

How receipts work →
  1. Sales are the month's marketplace fills on Ethereum, Solana, Bitcoin, Base and Polygon, decoded from fill events and from NFT transfers paired with payment legs.
  2. Wash trades are excluded before totals: sales between the same wallet, between wallets that funded each other or in circular patterns within a small group.
  3. Values are in the payment token and in USD at oracle prices at each sale block, so a month's total does not move with later price changes.
  4. Each edition is pinned to the last block of the month on each chain, and a sale settled after it belongs to the next edition.

Questions

Questions people ask.

What does the monthly NFT market report cover?

Each edition covers one calendar month of NFT sales across covered chains: total value and count, buyers and sellers, the split by chain and marketplace, the leading collections and how all of it compares with the month before.

Why do NFT sales numbers differ between sources?

Sources differ in which chains and marketplaces they cover, whether they remove wash trades and how they value sales paid in other tokens. This report states each of those choices and cites the fills, so its totals can be checked.

Are NFT sales declining?

The report compares each month with the one before and with the same month a year earlier, for value, sale count and buyers. Value can fall while buyers rise, or the reverse, so each is shown on its own.

What counts as a wash trade in this report?

A sale between wallets with the same owner: the same address on both sides, a buyer funded by the seller shortly before or an NFT that circles among a small group of wallets. These sales are excluded from every total and reported on their own line.

Wash trade
A sale between wallets controlled by the same person, which adds volume without a real change of owner.
Unique buyer
A distinct address that bought at least one NFT in the month; one person with several wallets counts several times.
