Hivemapper Network Stats: HONEY Burns, Rewards and Mapping

How much HONEY is burned for map data, how much is paid to mappers and is the network's supply growing?

HONEY burned for map data and issued to contributors each week on Solana, the network's net supply change and reported mapping coverage.

About

What it answers, and for whom.

Hivemapper is a decentralized mapping network: contributors drive with dashcams that capture street imagery, which becomes map data sold to companies. It runs a burn-and-mint economy on Solana. Customers buy Map Credits at a fixed dollar price and HONEY of that value is burned, while contributors are paid newly issued HONEY each week for mapping and reviewing data.

Burns measure what customers paid for maps and issuance measures what the network pays out, so the two side by side show whether usage covers rewards. This dashboard reads both from Solana and adds Map Consumption Rewards, the part of burned HONEY reissued to contributors whose data was used. Kilometres mapped and coverage are reported by the network off-chain and are labelled as such. The company behind Hivemapper now trades as Bee Maps.

Method

How it will be measured.

Every figure will be read at a block, kept with its source and its exact read, and open a receipt anyone can re-check.

How receipts work →
  1. Burns are Burn instructions on the HONEY mint from the addresses Hivemapper uses to convert Map Credit purchases, summed per week and valued at the DEX price at each burn.
  2. Issuance is HONEY minted or distributed to contributor wallets in each weekly reward run, split by reward program where the distribution address identifies it.
  3. Map Consumption Rewards are the reissued part of burned HONEY, read from their own distribution transactions so they are not counted twice with burns.
  4. Kilometres mapped, coverage and active devices come from the network's published figures, are labelled off-chain and are never mixed with on-chain amounts.

Questions

Questions people ask.

How does Hivemapper's burn and mint work?

Map data customers pay a fixed dollar price for Map Credits, and HONEY of that value is burned. Contributors earn newly issued HONEY for mapping, and part of what is burned is reissued to them as Map Consumption Rewards. Burns measure demand; issuance measures what the network pays.

How do contributors earn HONEY?

By driving with a supported dashcam and uploading imagery that becomes map data, and by reviewing data for quality. Rewards are paid in weekly runs on Solana, so each week's payouts to contributor wallets can be counted.

Is Hivemapper the same as Bee Maps?

Bee Maps is the brand the company behind Hivemapper uses for its dashcams and map data products. The network's token is still HONEY on Solana, which is what this dashboard reads.

Is Hivemapper's revenue on-chain?

The burns are: each Map Credit purchase ends in HONEY burned on Solana, which anyone can verify. Kilometres mapped, map coverage and device counts are reported by the network off-chain and are labelled as such here.

Is HONEY supply growing or shrinking?

The net supply tile answers it week by week: HONEY issued to contributors minus HONEY burned. When rewards exceed burns, supply grows; the history shows how that balance has moved.

Map Credits
The unit customers buy, at a fixed dollar price, to access Hivemapper map data; buying them burns HONEY.
Burn and mint
A token model in which usage burns tokens and work is paid with newly minted ones, so supply follows the balance of the two.
Map Consumption Rewards
HONEY reissued to contributors whose data customers used, funded from part of the HONEY burned for Map Credits.
